ABOUT PINECLIFF

Pinecliff is Freedman Racing’s private thoroughbred training facility, located between Mornington and Mount Eliza on the Mornington Peninsula.

Set across approximately 40 acres of picturesque, tree-lined grounds, Pinecliff provides a unique training environment away from a traditional racecourse setting.

The property features an 800m grass track, 1800m sand track, sand arena, horse pool, treadmills and direct access to the beach.

With approximately 50 horses based at Pinecliff, including young horses through to some of the stable’s leading racehorses, we are looking for an experienced horseperson to help oversee the day-to-day operation of the stable.

THE ROLE

Working closely with Anthony and Sam Freedman and our senior management team, you will take responsibility for the daily running of the Pinecliff stable and help ensure the highest standards of horse care, staff management and stable organisation are maintained.

This is a hands‑on position suited to someone with strong horsemanship, excellent organisational skills and the ability to lead a team.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Pinecliff stable

- Managing and supervising stable staff and track riders

- Coordinating morning trackwork and daily horse routines

- Ensuring trainer instructions and individual horse programs are carried out correctly

- Monitoring the health, condition and wellbeing of horses

- Liaising with trainers, veterinarians, farriers and other service providers

- Assisting with race and trial preparation

- Maintaining accurate horse treatment and reliable records

- Managing staff rosters and daily workloads

- Ensuring the stable maintains excellent standards of presentation, cleanliness and organisation





- Maintaining the highest standards of horse welfare and workplace safety

- Providing regular feedback to Anthony, Sam and the wider management team

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for someone with significant experience within the thoroughbred racing industry who is ready to take responsibility for an important part of a leading racing operation.

The successful applicant will ideally have:

- Extensive experience working in a thoroughbred racing stable

- Previous experience as an Assistant Trainer or Foreman

- Excellent horsemanship and a strong understanding of thoroughbred training

- The ability to identify and communicate changes in a horse’s health, behaviour or condition

- Experience managing and developing staff

- Strong organisational and communication skills

- The ability to remain calm and make positive decisions in a busy stable environment

- A proactive attitude and willingness to take ownership of the role

- High standards of professionalism, reliability and attention to detail

A current driver’s licence is essential.
