The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) is the peak body for Aboriginal Land Rights in NSW, established under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW). As a self-funding statutory authority, NSWALC leads vital work to protect and promote the rights, interests, and futures of Aboriginal peoples across the state.
NSWALC’s Community Division plays a central role in strengthening Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALCs), supporting them to build independent, culturally robust, and self-sustaining communities. The Western Zone Office helps LALCs comply with the ALRA and develop long‑term social, cultural, economic and land activation outcomes
About the role
NSWALC is seeking a passionate Program Officer to support the delivery of the Land Warriors Junior Rangers Program across participating Aboriginal communities throughout NSW. Working closely with the Junior Rangers Program Coordinator, you will assist with program delivery, stakeholder engagement, administration, logistics, reporting, and participant activities that help Aboriginal young people strengthen their connection to culture, Country and community.
Key Outcomes / Accountabilities for theProgram Officer
Support the Junior Rangers Program Coordinator with the implementation and day-to-day delivery of the Land Warriors Junior Rangers Program across participating locations.
Coordinate program activities including school-based sessions, on-Country activities, camps, excursions, workshops, training and events in accordance with approved plans, budgets and timeframes.
Maintain regular contact with participating Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALCs), schools, local program workers,
contractors and other delivery partners to support effective local program delivery.
Coordinate program logistics including schedules, transport, accommodation, catering, equipment, resources, venues and other arrangements required for program activities.
Maintain accurate and current program records, including participant registers, attendance, consent documentation, activity records and Local Cultural Delivery Plans.
Support LALCs and local delivery partners to meet program delivery, administrative and reporting requirements, including following up outstanding actions and documentation.
Assist the Coordinator to monitor program expenditure against approved budgets and funding allocations and support procurement, payments and contractor administration.
Support the preparation of program plans, reports, briefings, correspondence, funding reports and acquittals.
Collect and maintain program data, participant feedback and evidence of outcomes to support monitoring, evaluation and funding reporting requirements.
Support the coordination of education, training and development opportunities for participants, including activities delivered by Registered Training Organisations, Indigenous Ranger groups and other program partners.
Attend program locations and activities as required to provide practical delivery support and maintain effective relationships with LALCs, schools, participants and delivery partners.
Support compliance with program requirements, child safety,
risk management and Work Health and Safety obligations, and promptly identify and expedite significant delivery issues, incidents, risks, delays or budget concerns to the Junior Rangers Program Coordinator.
Aboriginality.
Strong knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal communities, cultures and values, with demonstrated ability to work respectfully and culturally safely with Aboriginal people and communities.
Experience supporting the delivery of community, youth, education, cultural or other programs and activities.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Aboriginal communities, Local Aboriginal Land Councils, schools, young people and other stakeholders.
Well-developed organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to coordinate activities, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare correspondence, reports and program documentation and maintain accurate records.
Sound problem-solving skills, with the ability to use initiative, identify emerging issues and escalates matters appropriately.
Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team and with multiple program partners.
Competency in Microsoft Office applications and the use of information and recordkeeping systems.
Understanding of culturally safe and child-safe practices when working with Aboriginal children and young people.
Current NSW Driver Licence and willingness to undertake regular travel, including overnight travel where required.
Current Working with Children Check, or ability to obtain prior to commencement.
