Test Automation Engineer - Hardware and Systems

As a Test Systems Engineer within the Navigation Solutions team, you will be responsible for the design and realisation of test systems for Electronic and mechanical designs. You will own the design from concept through manufacturing and through to deployment on the production line. You will also be responsible for lifecycle management of the systems.

You will work directly with the design team during the design phase to ensure testability is considered and design test systems to ensure that design requirements are met during goods incoming inspection.

Key Responsibilities

1. Electronic Test Systems

Design of Bed of Nails test systems to allow rapid repeatable testing of PCBA’s received from our manufacturer

Automatic pass/fail analysis including generation of test reports where necessary

Software development to operate test systems and automate generation of reports.

Work with the Electronic design team and the Embedded software team to ensure test coverage is achievable in production

2. Mechanical Test Systems

Design of mechanical jigs to test critical dimensions and simplify goods incoming inspection.

Design of jigs and fixtures to simplify product assembly.

Work with the Mechanical design team during the design phase to ensure testability once design is in production.

3. Software Interfaces

Integrate test systems to automatically record test data in ERP systems. Automation of record keeping and logging of test data.

Experience with scripting languages such as Python required. Access to AI tools for development of software interfaces is available.

Embrace a "Progress over Perfection" mindset by deploying rapid design iterations to gather early feedback from technical internal stakeholders.

Advocate for consistency and efficiency across all products balancing quick delivery and quality.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Electronic/Mechatronic or Computer Systems Engineering.
- 3+ years of experience as a design engineer working across multi discipline design teams, preferably within a deep tech, robotics, SaaS-hardware hybrid, or high-reliability manufacturing organization.
- Proficiency in at least one Engineering discipline, with a competency in the others along with a willingness to learn and update your knowledge, keeping up to date with industry best practice and trends.
- Robust communication skills; able to communicate non technical to non-technical stakeholders.
- A curious mindset with an intrinsic drive to learn complex technical frameworks quickly.
- Exceptional attention to detail combined with a bias for action and decisive problem-solving.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that’s all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you’ll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

Building MCP connectors and tool integrations that give a team of AI agents two-way access to the platforms our country specialists use today – analytics, SEO, search console, content tools, marketing platforms, and our internal data warehouse.

Building the data pipelines that surface real-time market data (performance metrics, product usage, conversion funnels, content engagement) into a queryable layer the agents can act on.

Designing, building, and evaluating the skills that agents execute: reusable blueprints for work cycles like SEO analysis, content production, localisation QA, and market reporting.

Partnering directly with a Country Manager to iterate on agent performance against real MAU and ARR outcomes in-market, and tightening the feedback loop between human direction and agent output.

Replacing manual processes with live tooling as the harness comes online, so the team is shipping into a real market from week one.

Documenting the harness, skills, and evaluation framework so the model is repeatable as we deploy to additional markets.

You’re probably a match if

You are firmly grounded in computer science and engineering fundamentals and have experience developing web applications.

You have hands‑on experience managing cloud platform configurations, preferably in AWS (with Azure or GCP as a bonus).





You have experience working with infrastructure for system integration – APIs, webhooks, event pipelines, and ideally MCP.

You bring 7–10+ years of experience in system engineering, system architecture, applied AI engineering, or an equivalent technical role.

You have hands‑on experience building or evaluating LLM‑based agents, tools, or skills – or strong engineering fundamentals and a clear appetite to go deep on agent architecture quickly.

You are comfortable working close to the metric: shipping into a live operation and iterating on what real market data tells you.

You communicate effectively and confidently, both verbal and written forms.

You have hands‑on experience using AI in your work to drive greater impact.

About the team

The AI Country Team is a brand new team with a simple objective: accelerate Canva’s growth in international markets. We’re doing it by pairing a Country Manager with a team of AI engineers who build the tools needed to succeed in specialist domains: SEO, content, marketing, product, localisation.

This is a small founding team tackling a wide‑open problem space. There are no established playbooks yet, giving early hires the opportunity to shape the team’s direction, define how the work gets done, and build solutions from the ground up. We’re looking for an exceptional Lead Applied AI Engineer to build it.

The role

This is a senior, hands‑on builder role.

You’ll lead applied AI at Fetch – setting the direction, choosing the models and approaches, building them yourself, measuring whether they actually work, and shipping them into real products.

Your core job is simple: make Fetch exceptionally good at understanding pet health.

That capability will power everything from helping pet parents care for their pets, to supporting vets, interpreting health records and automating parts of insurance.

We don’t need someone with a particular academic pedigree. We want someone who is obsessed with what modern models can do, moves quickly, experiments constantly and knows how to turn new capabilities into reliable products.

What you’ll build and own

Fetch’s pet health intelligence layer: models and systems that can understand messy, longitudinal pet health information and reason over it

Model quality end‑to‑end: datasets, evals, model selection, prompting, retrieval, post‑training, fine‑tuning, guardrails and monitoring

A serious evaluation system: clear benchmarks for what good looks like, where models fail and whether a new model is actually better

Domain‑specific AI: turning proprietary pet health data and expert veterinary knowledge into capabilities generic models don’t have

Multimodal understanding: health records, documents, images and, over time, richer inputs like video

Safe production AI: working closely with our vets, compliance and engineering teams to make sure the systems we ship are reliable and clinically appropriate

About you

You’re an exceptional applied AI builder who wants a lot of ownership.

You’ve probably spent the last few years building with modern ML and LLMs and have gone much deeper than plugging an API into a product.

This might look like:

3+ years building and shipping ML or AI systems in production

Strong experience with modern LLMs and applied AI systems

Deep understanding of evals – how to construct them, measure model quality and use failures to drive improvement

Experience with post‑training, fine‑tuning, RAG, structured outputs, tool use or similar techniques

Strong instincts around training data – what data matters, how to structure it and how to improve its quality

Enough engineering ability to take an idea from experiment to production

Good judgement about when to use a frontier model, an open‑source model, retrieval, fine‑tuning or something simpler

Strong product thinking – you care what the system enables for the user, not just the benchmark score

Comfortable working directly with domain experts to turn human expertise into data, evals and model behaviour

Experience in health, veterinary care or insurance is useful. It isn’t required.

A PhD isn’t required either. We care much more about what you’ve built, how you think and how quickly you learn.
