Aditum Lawyers is looking for an experienced Construction Lawyer to join our growing commercial practice.

We are particularly interested in lawyers who are comfortable taking genuine ownership of their matters: advising clients directly, developing strategy, running disputes and litigation, and progressing matters without requiring constant supervision.

The ideal candidate will have broad construction law experience and, preferably, experience working across multiple Australian jurisdictions.

The Role

You will work across a substantial and varied construction practice involving both front-end advisory work and disputes.

Your matters may include:

- building and construction disputes;

- complex commercial litigation;

- security of payment claims and adjudications;

- payment disputes and recovery proceedings;

- defective work and delay claims;

- variations, extensions of time and liquidated damages;

- contractual interpretation and risk allocation;

- building contracts, consultancy agreements and subcontracts;

- termination and repudiation disputes;

- residential and commercial construction matters;

- disputes involving builders, developers, subcontractors, consultants and property owners;

- tribunal, court and appellate proceedings; and

- strategic advice before disputes escalate into litigation.

We are not looking for someone confined to a narrow area of construction law. We want a lawyer capable of understanding the commercial problem, identifying the legal strategy and carrying the matter through.

About You

You will ideally have 4+ years PAE,



although we are more interested in capability than title or years of admission.

You should be:

- experienced in construction law and construction disputes;

- a confident litigator with strong procedural knowledge;

- capable of independently running matters from initial advice through to resolution or hearing;

- comfortable appearing in court or tribunals where appropriate;

- experienced briefing and working with counsel and experts;

- commercially minded and able to give clients clear, practical advice;

- an excellent written advocate;

- confident dealing directly with sophisticated clients and opponents;

- highly organised and accountable for your own files; and

- comfortable working in a fast-moving practice where lawyers are trusted with substantial responsibility.

Experience practising across Queensland, New South Wales and/or other Australian jurisdictions will be particularly well regarded.

What We Are Looking For

This role will suit a lawyer who wants more than simply being allocated discrete tasks on somebody else's file.

We want someone capable of becoming a genuine authority within the firm on construction matters.

You should be comfortable being given a problem rather than a list of instructions.

That means assessing the facts, identifying the issues,



recommending the strategy, communicating with the client and moving the matter forward.

For the right person, there is significant scope to help build and ultimately lead an expanding construction practice within the firm.
