EL1 Delivery Lead – Data Science & AI

Location: Melbourne or Sydney
Contract: 12 months + 12-month extension

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced EL1 Delivery Lead to join the Data Science Hub (DaSH), facilitating the delivery of creative data science, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and advanced analytics initiatives.

Working closely with Lead Data Scientists, AI Engineers, Business Analysts and senior stakeholders, you will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage delivery priorities and dependencies, and ensure complex initiatives progress from business problem discovery through to proof of concept, implementation and operational handover.

This is a key leadership role focused on enabling effective delivery across multiple squads, supporting Agile practices, strengthening governance and maintaining alignment between business objectives and technical delivery.

Key Responsibilities

- Facilitate the delivery of multiple data science, AI, machine learning and advanced analytics initiatives across multidisciplinary teams.
- Coordinate delivery plans, priorities, dependencies, risks, issues and resources across concurrent projects.
- Partner with Lead Data Scientists and AI & Engineering leads to align delivery approaches with technical requirements and business outcomes.
- Lead discovery workshops and scoping activities to define business problems, solution options, success measures and proof of concept proposals.
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, showcases, retrospectives and backlog refinement, tailoring delivery practices to suit data science and AI initiatives.
- Support the Portfolio Director, Data Science with portfolio planning, prioritisation, delivery reporting, governance artefacts, business cases and executive submissions.
- Manage stakeholder engagement and communication across technical teams, business areas, governance functions and senior executives.




- Support compliance with agency governance, privacy, cyber security, data access, responsible AI and assurance requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in delivery practices, team collaboration, transparency and accountability.

Essential Criteria

- Demonstrated experience delivering complex data, analytics, AI, machine learning, digital or technology initiatives within large organisations or government.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with technical leads, data scientists, AI engineers, business analysts and business stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of Agile, hybrid and fit-for-purpose delivery methodologies, including facilitating sprint ceremonies and managing backlogs.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including executive reporting, governance documentation and business case preparation.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, risks, issues, dependencies and stakeholder expectations across multiple initiatives.
- Ability to work effectively with technical leaders, supporting their expertise while coordinating delivery and achieving shared outcomes.

Desirable Criteria

- Experience delivering data science, machine learning, AI, advanced analytics or automation initiatives.
- Familiarity with model development lifecycles, MLOps, responsible AI, AI assurance, data governance or cloud-based AI delivery.
- Experience managing proof of concepts, pilots or prototypes and transitioning experimental solutions towards operational implementation.
- Experience preparing executive-level reports, business papers, governance artefacts and delivery roadmaps.

- Hours: 37.5 hours per week
- Clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline Security Clearance
