Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Registered Midwives to join the Maternity Assessment Centre (MAC) team within the Women's and Children's Division.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

MAC provides timely, woman-centred assessment, triage and care for women with pregnancy-related concerns, working closely with Birth Suite, Maternity and the broader multidisciplinary team. The service supports the assessment of both planned and unplanned presentations, with a focus on safe, efficient and responsive maternity care. MAC operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

About the Role:

The Registered Midwife or Nurse/Midwife is responsible for providing safe, woman-centred assessment, triage and midwifery care to women and their families presenting to the Maternity Assessment Centre (MAC), within a multidisciplinary environment. The Registered Midwife ensures care is planned, implemented, evaluated and maintained to a high standard in accordance with professional standards and evidence-based practice.

The role is responsible for:

- Providing safe, woman-centred assessment, triage and midwifery care to women presenting to MAC.
- Undertaking timely and comprehensive assessment, identifying clinical risk and recognising changes in maternal or fetal wellbeing.
- Developing, implementing and evaluating individualised plans of care in collaboration with women, their families, the AMUM and the multidisciplinary team
- Providing appropriate management, advice, education and support based on clinical assessment and identified needs.
- Escalating clinical concerns and facilitating timely review by medical and/or specialist teams when required.
- Supporting the coordination and continuity of care between MAC, Birth Suite, antenatal services, inpatient units, Emergency Department, community services and other relevant care providers.
- Recognising, respecting and responding to the individual needs, dignity, culture, values and preferences of women and their families.
- Promoting shared decision-making and ensuring women and families are provided with clear information, appropriate referrals and safety-netting advice.
- Working collaboratively with medical, nursing,



midwifery, allied health and support staff to achieve safe and positive health outcomes.
- Maintaining accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical documentation in accordance with professional and organisational requirements.
- Contributing to quality improvement, clinical governance, education and service development activities within MAC.

To be successful in this role you will have:

- Current qualifications and registration with AHPRA as either a Registered Nurse/Midwife or Registered Midwife.
- Must be able to demonstrate sound clinical assessments and analysis, and implement indicated treatments
- Must be able to work a rotating roster, including day, evening and night duty shifts (ability to work night duty- non-negotiable)
- Current Level 3 FSEP certificate
- Competent in advanced midwifery skills including IV Cannulation and speculum examination
- Minimum 3 years midwifery experience
- Desirable competence in third-trimester ultrasound assessment, or willingness to develop competency in this area.

This position is for a midwife to work within our MAC department, however there may be opportunity in the future for rotations into other maternity area's.
