Are you a people-focused leader who loves being part of a team, solving problems and making things work better? Bring your transferable skills to a role where you can make a difference.
Gentle Touch Orthodontics is looking for a hands-on, adaptable and people-focused Practice Manager to join our team.
We want someone who will get to know our team, understand our practice from the ground up and genuinely become part of the day-to-day life of the business.
You'll start by learning the different roles within our practice understanding what our reception team does, what happens behind the scenes, how our clinical team operates and what our patients and parents experience. From there, you'll gradually take ownership of the operational side of the business, support the team, identify opportunities to improve and help make the practice run even better.
Our doctor wants to focus on being the doctor. Your role will be to take care of the team, the day-to-day operations and the things that keep the business moving.
That might mean leading a team meeting, solving a tricky problem, improving a process, helping at reception, supporting a team member or even taking out the rubbish when that's what needs to be done!
We're looking for someone that can replace the attitude of "that's not my job" with "what needs to be done?"
You don't necessarily need orthodontic or dental experience. If you're a strong people leader with an understanding of small business, a willingness to learn and a genuine desire to make a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
The finer details
- Permanent part-time or full-time position – we're flexible for the right person
- Minimum 3 days per week, with Wednesday, Thursday and Friday preferred
- Hours 7:45 am – 5:15 pm
- Looking for someone who can make a consistent commitment to the practice and team
- Based primarily at our Rose Park location, with occasional work at St Clair
- Current driver's licence and access to a car essential
- Salary negotiable depending on experience
We're flexible and would love to hear what works for you.
About the role
As Practice Manager, you'll work closely with Dr Balya to support the team and take ownership of the day-to-day operations of the practice.
Your first priority will be getting to know our people and our business.
You'll learn how the practice works from the ground up, build relationships with the team and gradually identify where you can make the biggest impact.
You'll:
- Get to know every role in the practice and understand how each person contributes to the patient experience.
- Build genuine relationships with our team,
patients, parents and the local community.
- Nurture, support and develop our team, creating an environment where people feel valued, supported and motivated.
- Be a hands-on leader who is happy to pitch in wherever you're needed.
- Take ownership of the day-to-day running of the practice and free up our doctor to focus on patient care.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and workflows and then help implement those changes.
- Listen to the team, understand what's working and what's not, and work collaboratively to find solutions.
- Manage recruitment, inductions, training, team meetings and performance conversations.
- Support team members through challenges and help create opportunities for their growth.
- Oversee rosters, stock, invoices, maintenance and other day-to-day administrative requirements.
- Help manage patient concerns and ensure our patients and parents receive an exceptional experience.
- Work with our external marketing and business partners to support the continued growth of the practice.
- Monitor business performance and help turn goals into practical action.
- Problem-solving! Things don't always go to plan in a small business, and we need someone who can calmly work out what needs to happen next.
- Be adaptable and willing to jump between big-picture thinking and the small things that need doing.
About you
More than anything, we're looking for the right person.
You might already be an experienced Practice Manager, or you might be an experienced leader from another industry who is ready to take the next step.
You will:
- Be a people person. You genuinely enjoy getting to know people and building relationships.
- Have a natural ability to nurture, support and bring out the best in others.
- Understand that outstanding leadership starts with being part of the team.
- Have a good attitude and a willingness to get involved.
- Be adaptable and comfortable wearing lots of different hats.
- Be someone who sees a problem and thinks, "How can we fix this?"
- Be willing to learn, you don't need to know everything on day one.
- Be confident enough to lead, but humble enough to listen.
- Understand that in a small business,
everyone pitches in.
- Have strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise when the day doesn't go according to plan.
- Enjoy improving systems and finding practical ways to make things easier and more efficient.
- Be comfortable having difficult conversations when needed, while always treating people with fairness and respect.
- Take ownership and follow things through.
- Have a genuine interest in helping a business and its people grow.
We're happy to teach you the orthodontic side of the business if you bring the right attitude, leadership skills and willingness to learn.
This role might be for you if...
You like being in the thick of things rather than sitting on the sidelines.
You enjoy people, problem-solving and making things better.
You can move from a strategic conversation in the morning to helping the reception team in the afternoon.
You're the person who notices something isn't working and wants to fix it.
You're comfortable saying, "I don't know, but I'll find out."
And you're not afraid to roll up your sleeves and help with whatever needs doing.
This is a leadership role, but you're still one of the team.
