This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced data engineering professional to help build a new development platform designed to address real clinical and operational challenges using modern data technologies and artificial intelligence.

Working within a small, innovative and driven team, you will contribute to foundational infrastructure and develop trusted data assets and digital products that support frontline staff and patients. You will work in a greenfield environment where you can influence technical direction, establish strong engineering practices and help shape how data and AI are used across healthcare delivery.

About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join our Innovation, Platforms and Partnerships team and help build a greenfield development platform using modern data technologies and AI.

You will design, build and operate secure, enterprise-grade data pipelines and trusted data assets that support clinical and operational teams. Working within a small, innovative team, you will also provide technical leadership across data architecture, modelling, quality, governance and the responsible use of AI.

You will:

- design and operate resilient data pipelines using modern engineering and CI/CD practices

- contribute to modern data, API management and AI platforms

- establish data architecture, modelling and quality standards

- use AI and large language models to extract and evaluate information

- implement appropriate privacy, security and data governance controls





- lead technical discussions and collaborate with delivery and technical teams.

About you

We are looking for an experienced and cooperative data engineer with:

- experience designing modern lakehouse architectures and resilient ETL/ELT pipelines

- strong Python, SQL, NoSQL and data warehousing skills

- cloud platform experience, preferably Microsoft Azure and Fabric

- experience with CI/CD, automated testing and production monitoring

- experience extracting information from unstructured data and using large language models

- a strong understanding of data privacy, security and governance

- the ability to lead technical discussions and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Experience with dbt, Spark, AI agents, LLMOps, clinical terminology, FHIR or healthcare and other regulated environments will be highly regarded. Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or significant industry experience are required.
