Burton, SA | Full-time | Business development and branch leadership

Our client is a well-established Australian modular construction and manufacturing business delivering building solutions across mining and resources, government, defence, education, health, commercial and community projects.

With integrated design, manufacturing, transport and installation capability, they provide modular and transportable buildings for both sale and hire.

With consistent growth over many years and a strong pipeline across NT, WA, QLD and beyond, they have recently expanded into South Australia and are seeking a Business Development Manager to grow their South Australian business and lead their Burton branch.

This is an opportunity for an experienced sales and people leader who enjoys building relationships, winning work and taking responsibility for commercial performance.

About the role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will identify new opportunities, develop existing accounts and convert enquiries and tenders into profitable sales and hire contracts.

You will take ownership of the branch’s sales pipeline, quoting, pricing and client relationships, while leading the branch team and overseeing day-to-day performance.

Working closely with Estimating, Design, Commercial, Finance and Operations, you will ensure proposals are accurately scoped, commercially sound and aligned with the business’s capacity to manufacture, deliver and install.

The role combines time in the market with practical branch leadership. You will engage with clients, visit project sites, develop proposals and guide your team through the priorities required to win and deliver work successfully.

Key responsibilities

- Identify and pursue new clients, projects and markets across South Australia

- Build relationships with mining and resources companies, government agencies, head contractors,

builders, architects and project developers

- Develop and manage a solid sales pipeline through prospecting, networking, client visits and tender opportunities

- Prepare and present tailored proposals, quotations and tender submissions for modular building sales and hire

- Own the quoting process, working with Estimating and Design to clarify scope, inclusions, exclusions and delivery requirements

- Negotiate pricing and commercial terms within approved authority, identifying and escalating contractual and project risks

- Take responsibility for branch sales targets, revenue, gross margin, cost control and forecasting

- Lead, coach and manage the branch team, including sales, quoting support, administration and yard/operations staff

- Oversee branch resourcing, the yard and hire/display buildings, and coordinate clear handovers to Operations

- Maintain accurate CRM records and reporting, improve sales and quoting processes, and uphold safety and quality standards

What we are looking for

You will bring demonstrated success in business development, B2B sales or account management within construction, mining services or a related industry, together with experience leading a team or branch.

You will ideally have:

- A track record of winning new business and meeting or exceeding sales targets

- Strong commercial judgement across pricing, margins, costs and contract terms

- Experience preparing quotations, proposals and tender submissions

- The ability to understand client requirements and work with technical specialists to develop practical solutions

- Confident negotiation and relationship-building skills, from site teams through to senior decision-makers

- A disciplined approach to pipeline management, follow-up, forecasting and CRM systems

- Strong people leadership, with clear expectations and a practical approach to performance and accountability

Experience in modular or transportable buildings, an established South Australian network, and familiarity with construction programs, site works and building compliance would be advantageous. Relevant qualifications in construction, business or sales are also well regarded.

Location and working arrangements

- Based at the Burton branch in Adelaide

- Regular travel to client offices, mine sites and regional or remote project locations across South Australia

- Occasional interstate travel to the business’s Northern Territory branches

- A current driver’s licence and Construction Induction White Card are required

Appointment will be subject to pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol testing, a National Police Check and any required client site inductions or clearances.

Why consider this opportunity

- Competitive base salary + super + car

- Responsibility for growing the South Australian business and leading the local branch

- Direct reporting to the Chief Operating Officer

- Integrated design, manufacturing, logistics and delivery capability

- A diverse project portfolio across both building sales and hire

- The opportunity to shape customer relationships, team performance and branch processes
