Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

About the Magistrates' Court of Victoria

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The MCV determines in excess of 200,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, dealing with over 90 percent of all adult cases that come before Victorian courts each year.

About the Role

Shape the future of justice in Victoria. Lead high-profile legal strategy, drive reform, and provide trusted counsel at the highest levels of the Magistrates' Court of Victoria.

This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished legal leader to take on one of the Court's most influential legal roles. As the Court's senior internal legal adviser, you will work directly with the Chief Magistrate, Chief Executive Officer, Executive Leadership Group and judicial officers to navigate complex legal challenges, support major reform initiatives and strengthen governance across the organisation.

As Managing Legal Counsel, you will provide authoritative legal advice on complex,



sensitive and high-profile matters that impact the administration of justice across Victoria. You will play a critical role in shaping organisational strategy, informing decision-making and supporting reform initiatives that deliver lasting public value.

Leading a specialist legal team, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality legal services and effective legal risk management across a diverse portfolio, including public law, statutory interpretation, governance, administrative decision-making, commercial matters and emerging legal issues affecting Court operations.

In this role, you will:

- Provide trusted legal advice to executive leaders, judicial officers and senior stakeholders on complex and strategic matters.
- Partner with the Chief Magistrate, CEO and Executive Leadership Group to support sound decision-making, governance and organisational reform.
- Lead legal input into major strategic initiatives, governance forums and law reform activities.
- Identify, assess and manage legal risks while advising on opportunities and implications for the Court.
- Drive excellence in legal service delivery by leading and developing a high-performing specialist legal team.
- Influence significant policy, legislative and organisational reform initiatives within Victoria's justice system.

About You

You are a strategic and highly regarded legal professional with exceptional judgement, leadership capability and stakeholder influence. You thrive in complex environments, provide clear and trusted advice,



and are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to the effective administration of justice.

You will bring:

- A minimum of 8 years' post-admission legal experience.
- Significant expertise in public law, administrative law, statutory interpretation and governance.
- Experience providing high-level legal advice to executives and senior decision-makers.
- Outstanding leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A relevant Law degree and current Victorian Legal Practising Certificate.
- Government or in-house legal experience will be highly regarded.
