Job Objective:

The objective of the Metal Fabricator position is to interpret technical drawings and specifications, accurately mark out, cut, shape, fit and assemble metal components to fabricate steel structures and products in accordance with project requirements, quality standards and protected work practices.

Job Tasks and Duties:
Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and relevant standards to determine fabrication requirements.
Select, measure, mark out and prepare metal sections, plates and components for fabrication.
Cut, drill, grind and prepare various metals using appropriate workshop machinery and equipment.
Shape, bend, fold and form metal components using presses, rollers and other forming equipment.
Operate CNC machinery including press brakes, routers and mills where required.
Fit, align and assemble metal components and fabricated structures in accordance with drawings and specified tolerances.
Perform welding using appropriate processes and in accordance with drawings, specifications and applicable standards.
Grind,



dress and finish welds and fabricated surfaces to the required standard.
Use overhead cranes and other lifting equipment to safely position, assemble and handle materials and fabricated components.
Carry out dimensional and visual quality inspections throughout the fabrication process.
Complete required QA documentation and identify and report non-conforming materials or workmanship.
Prepare, identify and pack completed fabricated components for surface treatment, transport or installation.
Safely operate and maintain workshop machinery, power tools, welding equipment and other fabrication equipment.
Maintain a clean, organised and protected workshop workplace and comply with all workplace health and safety requirements.
Work collaboratively with supervisors, tradespeople, engineers and other team members to meet project quality and production requirements.
