Position Brief - Safety Management Systems Officer
About the role
The Safety Management System Officer is a role within the City's Safety & Wellbeing (S&W;) Branch responsible for managing, maintaining, and continuously improving the City's Safety Management System to ensure it remains current, accessible, and effective.
Responsibilities include:
Identify changes to relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, assess their impacts upon City operations and assist with prioritising required actions
Coordinate the document control, records management and consultation processes associated with the City-wide Safety Management System
Using knowledge of WHS laws, standards and other recognised safety frameworks, assess current or proposed SMS documents and processes to ensure the City remains compliant
Contribute to the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of S&W; standards, procedures and tools with a focus on usability mapping principles
Gather required evidence for and assist with planning actions as outcomes from internal or external audits of the SMS
Maintain and administer the publication of SMS and other documentation as required via Staffhub ensuring that information is current and accessible.
We're looking for people who have:
Diploma of Work Health and Safety or equivalent and relevant knowledge
Technical knowledge of QLD WHS legislation, its interpretation and application
Demonstrated thorough knowledge and substantial experience in developing, reviewing, evaluating and continuously improving safety management systems (preferably in a self-insured organisation)
High-level demonstrated proficiency in document management and control
Demonstrated effective analytical and problem-solving skills and with the ability provide sound advice, options or recommendations




Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology and digital systems to increase organisational efficiency and effectiveness
Well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proactively consult and communicate with a range of employees.
