Heavy Vehicle Fleet Manager / Leading Hand MechanicWe are looking for an experienced Heavy Vehicle Fleet Manager / Leading Hand Mechanic to take responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance, reliability, compliance and performance of our heavy vehicle fleet.
This is a genuinely hands-on role.
You will be responsible for managing the fleet while also working alongside the workshop team, carrying out mechanical repairs, servicing, fault finding and preventative maintenance.
The successful applicant will be someone who is equally comfortable turning a spanner as they are managing a maintenance schedule, organising repairs, leading a team and keeping the fleet compliant and on the road.
This is a key position within the business, with responsibility for ensuring our prime movers, trailers and associated equipment are safe, reliable and available when required.Key responsibilitiesCarrying out hands-on mechanical servicing, repairs and preventative maintenanceDiagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and braking systemsManaging the day-to-day maintenance requirements of prime movers,



trailers and other heavy equipmentPlanning and coordinating scheduled servicing and preventative maintenancePrioritising breakdowns and urgent repairs to minimise vehicle downtimeLeading and working alongside workshop personnelAllocating jobs and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to a high standardInspecting vehicles and equipment before returning them to serviceMaintaining accurate service, repair and maintenance recordsMonitoring fleet condition, reliability and recurring mechanical issuesAbout youA recognised Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Trade QualificationSignificant experience working on heavy vehiclesStrong mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding skillsExperience working on prime movers and heavy vehicle combinationsExperience carrying out servicing, preventative maintenance and repairsStrong knowledge of heavy vehicle mechanical systemsThe ability to work independently and make sound mechanical decisionsStrong organisational and time-management skillsGood leadership and communication skillsA solid work ethic and willingness to get hands-on
