Join our surgical nursing team
Ward E2 at John Hunter Hospital is seeking a motivated Registered Nurse to join our experienced and collaborative team.
This is an opportunity to broaden your surgical experience and develop your expertise in urological nursing within a major tertiary health service.
E2 cares for patients across Urology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery and General Surgery, providing a diverse acute surgical environment where you can develop your clinical skills.
What you'll do
Working alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team, you'll provide safe, evidence-based and person-centred care across the pre- and post-operative journey.
Your role will include clinical assessment, management of drains, catheters, IV medications and wound care, as well as supporting patients and families through education and discharge planning.
You will also:
Recognise and respond to clinical deterioration.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to achieve safe patient outcomes.
Maintain accurate documentation and effective handover.
Contribute to quality improvement, audits and service initiatives.
Support students and junior staff through supervision and role modelling.
Participate in ongoing education and professional development.
Previous urology experience is not essential - you'll be supported to develop your skills and confidence.

You'll work alongside experienced nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists and the Surgical Services Clinical Education Team, with opportunities to learn across a broad range of surgical presentations.
You'll receive a structured orientation tailored to your experience, including buddy shifts and supernumerary time, with ongoing access to urology education, in-services, simulation and professional development opportunities.
About you
You will have:
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
Experience and clinical knowledge in acute surgical nursing.
Sound clinical judgement, critical thinking and assessment skills.
Effective communication and the ability to work collaboratively.
Strong organisation and time management skills.
A commitment to person-centred care and continuous professional development.
