An established Australian structural steel and engineering business is looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to join its Brisbane team.This is not a role where you'll simply sit behind a desk pricing drawings.We're looking for an experienced structural steel estimator who can own the full estimating process, work directly with clients, price complex and high-value projects and play an active role in turning tenders into profitable work.You'll have plenty of autonomy, a solid existing team around you and the opportunity to influence bid strategy while mentoring developing estimators.The RoleReporting to the Lead Estimator and working closely with senior management, project delivery and the wider estimating team, you'll take ownership of a broad portfolio of structural steel opportunities.You'll be responsible for:Leading estimates for complex and high-value structural steel projectsManaging tenders from initial enquiry through pricing, submission, negotiation and handoverReviewing drawings, specifications, scope and project requirementsPreparing accurate labour, material, fabrication and installation estimatesIdentifying commercial risks, exclusions and scope opportunitiesDeveloping competitive bid and pricing strategiesManaging your own portfolio and tender pipelineWorking directly with clients throughout the estimating processAttending client meetings, tender interviews and post-tender negotiationsBuilding strong relationships with builders and other construction stakeholdersFollowing up tenders and gathering win/loss feedbackLeading detailed handovers into project deliveryReviewing estimates prepared by junior team membersMentoring junior and cadet estimatorsWorking closely with project management, drafting, workshop and leadership teamsHelping improve estimating processes, accuracy and conversion ratesThis is a genuinely end-to-end estimating position,



with the autonomy to run complex projects with minimal oversight.About YouWe're looking for someone who knows structural steel estimating and understands that winning good work isn't simply about being the cheapest.You'll ideally bring:Extensive structural steel estimating experienceExperience pricing complex and high-value construction projectsStrong understanding of structural steel fabrication and installationAbility to confidently interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentationStrong commercial judgement and negotiation skillsExperience managing tenders from enquiry through to award and handoverConfidence dealing directly with clientsEstablished relationships within structural steel and/or construction would be highly regardedExperience mentoring or supporting junior estimatorsExperience with Strumis or similar estimating softwareStrong take-off software capabilityCurrent White CardA proactive, commercially minded approachMost importantly, you'll be someone who can take ownership.
