Senior Project Engineer – Major Capital Projects
This Pilbara Shire is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our Major Capital Projects (MCP) team.
You'll take ownership of significant capital works across roads, bridges, buildings, land development, water and wastewater infrastructure — delivering projects from inception through to commissioning while balancing time, cost and quality.
About the role
Reporting to the Executive Manager Major Capital Projects, you will manage technically complex, high-value projects with multiple stakeholders.
You'll also play a key role in lifting the team's capability by developing systems, tools and processes that drive better project outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the full project lifecycle for allocated Major Capital Projects (planning, design, procurement, delivery and commissioning)
Undertaking technical assessments, preparing business cases, and reviewing complex engineering drawings and specifications
Developing high-quality project documentation including delivery plans, risk management plans, stakeholder engagement plans and procurement strategies
Managing consultants and contractors through the Shire's procurement processes, including tender evaluation and contract administration
Providing clear technical advice and ensuring strong project governance, reporting and commercial management
Proactively identifying and mitigating project and organisational risks




Mentoring junior team members and contributing to continuous improvement across the MCP function
Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external regulators, consultants and contractors
Ensuring all projects are delivered safely, sustainably and with consideration for long-term operations and maintenance
Experience:
Proven experience in project management of civil or infrastructure projects (local government experience highly regarded)
Strong contract management experience with consultants and contractors
The ability to interpret and explain complex engineering drawings
Sound knowledge of local government infrastructure and delivery environments
Excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills
Strong self-management, organisational and time-management abilities
Competent use of Microsoft Office and relevant engineering/project software
Current WA 'C' Class Driver's Licence
Desirable:
Minimum 5 - 10 years' experience in Civil Engineering, Project Management or Contract Management
Previous local government or public sector project experience
Exposure to financial and budget management
Postgraduate qualifications in engineering, project management or related fields
Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia
