SWSLHD- Community Child Health Fellow - Child Protection/Vulnerable Child - STP

Provisional Fellow positions in Community Child Health are available for the 2027 Clinical Year;

To provide Community Paediatric services for children and adolescents at risk including comprehensive assessment of children and young people at risk, and to obtain advanced training in Community Child Health fields of Population Child Health, Social and Ambulatory Paediatrics, Child Protection and Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics.

The fellow position offers trainees the chance to work with multi-disciplinary teams in a variety of clinical settings involving vulnerable families and children. The fellow participates in refugee paediatric clinics and out-of-home care clinics, as well as working with paediatric Aboriginal populations. They are involved in the clinical assessment of acute child protection cases, and follow-up of at-risk children and families. There are opportunities for the fellow to be involved in developmental screening clinics, as well as the research and population health activities of the department.

What you'll be doing

The fellow position offers trainees the opportunity to work with multi-disciplinary teams in a variety of clinical settings involving vulnerable families and children. The fellow participates in refugee paediatric clinics and out-of-home care clinics, as well as working with paediatric Aboriginal populations. They are involved in the clinical assessment of acute child protection cases, and follow-up of at-risk children and families. There are opportunities for the fellow to be involved in developmental screening clinics, as well as the research and population health activities of the department

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) as an advanced trainee or equivalent. Those registered with the RACP, should have preferably completed a minimum 6 months as an advanced trainee with RACP (or equivalent) at the commencement of Fellowship.
- 6 months experience in relevant subspecialty or equivalent. Please detail relevant experience
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals.
- Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, with a willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff.
- Understanding of research methodology or research experience and a willingness to undertake research proposal.
- Able to meet on call requirements of the individual positions.
