As a Principal Practice Officer, you will provide specialist advice, coordination and leadership for practice development, implementation and improvement initiatives that strengthen integrated rehabilitative service delivery across youth detention. The role contributes to the design, implementation and evaluation of evidence-informed programs, practices and service models, ensuring alignment with departmental priorities, government commitments, contemporary research, Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR) principles and best practice approaches to youth rehabilitation.

The role works across operational and strategic environments to support practice consistency, program integrity, quality assurance and continuous improvement activities, while fostering effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance outcomes for young people in custody.

Key responsibilities:

As a Principal Practice Officer, you will specifically:

- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of practice and program initiatives, ensuring effective, high quality and evidence-informed responses to departmental and government priorities.
- Lead,



coordinate and monitor key aspects of practice improvement activities, including planning, governance, resource coordination and identifying opportunities to strengthen integration across programs and services.
- Support the design, implementation and ongoing enhancement of rehabilitative programs and practices that respond to the complex needs of young people in custody.
- Represent the department with other levels of government and the non-government sector, where appropriate, to support coordinated approaches to youth rehabilitation and service delivery.
- Provide specialist advice on rehabilitative programs, practice frameworks and service delivery approaches, and where necessary coordinate activities that support effective implementation across youth detention centres.
- Liaise with staff across the department and key stakeholders to ensure initiatives, practices, programs and service responses are aligned, effective and responsive to operational needs.
- Contribute to research, evaluation and quality assurance activities that inform practice and program development, service improvement and information systems recordkeeping improvement for evidence-based decision making.
- Contribute to the department's activities to achieve its vision and strategic objectives in accordance with organisational values and priorities.
- Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
