APS6 Project Officer - Reporting & Data Analysis

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced APS6 Project Officer to join a high-profile Federal Government agency in Newcastle.
Working within a workforce readiness testing team, you will support the delivery of complex projects while developing high-quality reporting products, dashboards and executive-level documentation. This position requires strong project coordination, analytical and stakeholder engagement skills, along with advanced Microsoft Excel capability.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop, manage and implement project plans and schedules.
- Monitor project milestones, deliverables, budgets and timelines.
- Coordinate project governance, reporting and operational integration activities.
- Prepare executive briefs, business cases, reports, presentations and other corporate documentation.
- Identify, manage and escalate project risks, issues and dependencies.
- Analyse project, workforce and operational data to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, spreadsheets, tracking tools and performance reports.
- Validate and reconcile data to maintain reporting accuracy and integrity.
- Translate complex data into clear insights and practical recommendations.
- Support budget monitoring, procurement and contract management activities.
- Build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate quality assurance activities to ensure deliverables meet business requirements.
About youTo be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:
- Experience in project, program, workforce, operational or reporting environments.
- Strong project planning,
coordination and governance capability.
- Proven experience analysing and presenting complex quantitative and qualitative data.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, lookup functions, filtering and data validation.
- Experience developing dashboards, reporting products, performance measures and management information tools.
- Excellent written communication skills, with experience preparing executive briefs, reports and presentations.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and risk management skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid stakeholder engagement and relationship-management skills.
- Confidence working both autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams.
- A high level of discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information.
Experience using Power BI, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams or other business intelligence tools will be highly regarded. Previous experience within government or the public sector is also desirable.
Assignment details:
- Location: Newcastle, NSW
- Contract: 12 months, with the possibility of extension
- Commencement: As soon as possible, subject to pre-employment checks
- Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm
- Rate: Up to $60.26 per hour plus superannuation
- Citizenship: Australian citizenship is strongly preferred
The successful candidate will be required to complete relevant pre-employment screening, which may include a National Criminal History Records Check, referee checks and other role-specific checks.
