Tell me about this role

We are seeking an experienced Capability Analysis Engineer to support the delivery of a major Australian Defence capability program focused on integrated air and missile defence. In this role, you will provide specialist technical and operational expertise to support capability development, operational analysis, system performance evaluation and acquisition activities.

Working alongside Defence, industry partners and international stakeholders, you will evaluate complex capability solutions, undertake technical assessments and provide evidence-based recommendations that contribute to the successful delivery of critical Defence outcomes. This is an opportunity to work on a high-profile program involving advanced air defence systems, including launchers, missiles, radars and command and control capabilities.

What will I be doing day to day?

- Analyse and assess air defence capability solutions and system architectures.
- Review technical data, performance information and operational concepts to support capability decision-making.
- Conduct capability assessments against operational requirements and mission objectives.
- Evaluate launcher, missile, radar and command and control system performance.
- Undertake trade studies, option analysis and technical evaluations to support acquisition activities.




- Assess operational effectiveness across a range of threat environments and operational scenarios.
- Collaborate with Defence, industry, OEM and international stakeholders.
- Support the development of Functional Performance Specifications and Operational Concept Documents.
- Contribute to capability architecture development and systems integration activities.
- Assess interoperability requirements across Joint Fires, Battle Management Systems and tactical data links.
- Identify technical, operational and capability risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Develop engineering evidence, technical advice and capability recommendations to support major project milestones.

What sort of skills do I need?

- Certification
- Experience in capability analysis, systems engineering, operational analysis or Defence capability development.
- Strong understanding of air defence, missile systems, radar technologies and command and control systems.
- Experience working on complex Defence acquisition or capability delivery programs.
- Ability to conduct technical assessments, trade studies and option analysis.
- Understanding of systems integration and interoperability within Defence environments.




- Knowledge of Defence capability lifecycle processes and acquisition frameworks.
- Experience developing technical documentation, performance specifications and capability artefacts.
- Minimum 6 years' relevant experience, preferably within Defence.
- Current NV1 Security Clearance with the ability to obtain NV2 (NV2 preferred).
