About the role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Leading Hand – Commercial Roofing to join the team at IRT Roofing. This is a full-time position based in Toowoomba, QLD, offering an excellent opportunity to take on a leadership role within our commercial roofing division. As a Leading Hand, you will be responsible for overseeing roofing projects, managing teams on-site, and ensuring the highest standards of workmanship and safety are maintained. This role is pivotal to our operational success and directly impacts the quality of service we deliver to our clients.

Key responsibilities

- Supervise and manage roofing teams on commercial projects, ensuring all work is completed to specification and within agreed timelines

- Coordinate daily site activities, including task allocation, material management, and progress monitoring

- Conduct toolbox talks and ensure all team members adhere to health and safety protocols and company policies

- Inspect workmanship standards and address any deficiencies or quality issues immediately

- Liaise with project managers, clients, and other trades to ensure seamless project execution and communication

- Maintain accurate site records, including timesheets, daily reports, and project documentation

- Identify training needs within the team and mentor junior staff to develop their skills and capabilities

- Operate and maintain roofing equipment safely and ensure all tools are properly stored and maintained

- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback on project processes and procedures

What we're looking for

- Minimum 5+ years' experience in commercial roofing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leading hand capacity

- Comprehensive knowledge of commercial roofing systems, materials, and installation techniques

- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, including Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation applicable to construction

- Current or ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification





- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project plans

- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, manage, and mentor team members effectively

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with teams, clients, and management

- Solid problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make sound decisions under pressure

- Physical fitness and capability to perform manual work at heights and in various weather conditions

- Valid driver's licence and reliable transport to site locations

- Experience with roofing software or site management systems is advantageous
