About the Fund

The RFS Benevolent Fund supports serving and former RFS members, and their families, facing injury, loss, illness or hardship. Established following the 2019/20 Black Summer bushfires, it manages an investment fund of over $10 million and has approved more than $500,000 in grants since 2023. Guided by a three-year Strategic Plan (2026–2029), the Fund is moving from a start-up phase to a mature, independent organisation with its own systems and voice.

About the role

This role combines hands‑on management of beneficiary applications with Board-level leadership, complex stakeholder relationships and representing the Fund publicly. As General Manager, reporting to the Board through the Chair, you will lead delivery of the Strategic Plan's Horizon 1 and 2 priorities, including:

- Initially managing, and moving to overseeing, beneficiary applications and case management




- Building a structured partnership with RFS leadership and member support services
- Strengthening governance, policy, risk and reporting
- Supporting the Board with budgeting, investment and reserves
- Developing a fundraising strategy
- Building high‑trust relationships with Directors, volunteers, agencies and donors

About you

You will be a hands‑on senior leader with governance, financial and stakeholder‑management experience in a small-to-medium sized not-for-profit or member‑based organisation. You bring excellent judgement and communication, comfort working with a skills-based volunteer Board, and experience with sensitive client-facing services. A genuine appreciation of volunteer service and emergency-service culture, and a relevant tertiary qualification, are highly regarded.
