About the Role
The Workplace Safety and Wellbeing Manager is responsible for leading the implementation and evolution of MMP’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) strategy. This role ensures the integration of WHS initiatives with MMP’s strategic business objectives, driving excellence in safety culture, proactive risk management, and compliance across all sites.
As a leader, the role collaborates closely with key stakeholders, including executive leadership and operational teams, to enhance WHS systems, capability and practice. It provides oversight on the development of WHS frameworks, standards and solutions, fostering a culture of wellbeing, injury prevention, and psychological safety. The role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and sector best practice, supporting MMP in maintaining a safe, resilient and high-performing workplace.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of the WHS strategy for 2026 – 2029 aligned with MMP’s strategic objectives.
- Provide specialised WHS advice to executive leaders, officers and WHS Committees to strengthen governance and compliance.
- Support the implementation and embedment of the WHSMS across all cemetery sites to ensure consistency and excellence.
- Collaborate with business unit leaders to embed a safety-first culture and ensure teams are equipped to maintain compliance and best practices.
- Engage cross-functional teams, including Operations, CXE and Strategic Projects, Infrastructure and Assets to drive integrated WHS solutions across all cemetery sites.
- Oversee the incident and injury management framework, ensuring a consistent and effective approach to reporting, investigation, and resolution.
- Manage WHS analytics and reporting frameworks to track performance and safety trends,
presenting insights to executive leadership and the Board’s Audit and Risk Committee.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive wellbeing program addressing mental, physical, and emotional health, and measuring its impact on employee engagement and safety culture.
- Lead the identification and assessment of psychosocial risks, ensuring leaders are equipped to foster psychological safety, and support employee wellbeing.
- Implement WHS training programs, ensuring leaders and employees have the necessary knowledge and skills to mitigate risks effectively.
- Lead and develop the WHS team, providing mentorship, transparent direction, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and align with industry best practices.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3-years’ experience in a similar managerial role
- Tertiary qualifications in WHS (Advanced Diploma or Graduate Diploma level) or equivalent experience.
- Proven track record in implementing a WHS system and frameworks with a thorough understanding of risk management, injury management, and compliance.
- Exceptional interpersonal and leadership abilities, with experience leading teams and driving cultural change.
- Practica experience in designing and implementing psychosocial risk programs in the workplace
- Experience designing and delivering WHS training programs and wellbeing initiatives that promote psychological safety.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organisation and external stakeholders.
- Ability to analyse complex safety data and make strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
