About the role The Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making (AFLDM) Convenor works in partnership with Aboriginal children, young people, families, Elders, community and Child Protection to ensure Aboriginal voices, culture and family connections are central to decisions affecting children and young people.

This role will facilitate and lead AFLDM meetings, engage families and community members in decision-making, support the development of Cultural Support Plans, and provide culturally informed advice to Child Protection and other professionals.

This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified Position. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational requirement of this role in accordance with section 12 of the Equal Prospect Act 2010 (Vic).

This is a full-time ongoing position based at our Mildura office location.

Key Responsibilities

- Engage children, families, carers, Elders and community members in case planning and decision-making.
- Gather cultural information and support the development and implementation of Cultural Support Plans.
- Work collaboratively with Child Protection, ACSASS and other services to achieve positive outcomes for Aboriginal children and families.
- Maintain accurate case notes, reporting and program data.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

- Strong knowledge of Aboriginal culture, community and the historical and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal children and families.
- Knowledge of child protection, family services and best interest case practice.
- Experience working collaboratively with Aboriginal families, community and professional stakeholders.
- Relevant experience in case management, assessment, family decision-making or community services.
- A Certificate IV in Community Services or higher, with relevant experience.

- Current National Police Check
- Current Driver's License
