We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Forest Ranger – Timber Operations to join a State Government department on a full-time contract based in the Roma region .

This is a fantastic prospect for someone who enjoys working outdoors and wants to develop their skills and experience in sustainable forestry, timber harvesting and land management.

n

Reporting to the Forest Ranger in Charge, you will play an important role in monitoring and supporting sustainable forest harvesting operations across the region.

n

What you can expect - This is definitely not your typical 9-to-5 office job!

n

- Hours can vary between 6:00am and 6:00pm, depending on operational requirements.
n
- Regular travel throughout remote and regional areas is required.
n
- You may be required to live away from home for several weeks at a time, including camping in remote locations.
n
- Remote accommodation, travel allowances and accommodation expenses will be provided when working away from base.
n
- Work across State forests and other land tenures in varied terrain and environments.
n
- Full-time contract position until June, 2027 with the possibility of extension

About the role Your duties will include, but are not limited to: n
n

n
- Working outdoors in State forests and other land tenures to assess and mark trees, inspect harvesting operations and monitor environmental and safety standards.
n
- Monitoring forestry activities to ensure they are undertaken safely, sustainably and in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and operational standards.
n
- Assisting with the planning and coordination of timber harvesting activities, including operational plans and sale documentation.
n
- Using mapping and spatial information systems to support operational planning and decision-making.
n
- Building positive working relationships with timber operators, contractors, landholders and other stakeholders.
n
- Providing practical advice and support relating to forestry and timber operations.
n
- Safely operating 4WD and off-road vehicles in remote forest environments.
n
- Undertaking field work across varied and sometimes challenging terrain.
n

What we’re looking for You don't necessarily need to have extensive forestry experience. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, practical mindset and willingness to learn .

Essential requirement

- Current Manual C Class Driver Licence.
n
