About the Branch The Public Administration group supports the Victorian Government and the DPC Secretary with expertise in public sector governance, strategic communication, protocol and intergovernmental relations, and advice on legal issues and legislation. The group also provides whole of government leadership and coordination in these areas. In doing so, the group gives special attention to the institutions and systems of Westminster government, including the operation of Cabinet and the Victorian Executive Council, and relationships with the Office of the Governor, Parliament, Chief Parliamentary Counsel, the Victorian Electoral Commission and the Victorian Public Sector Commission.

About the Role The Adviser, First Peoples State Relations communications is responsible for providing high-quality and effective communications,



issues and risk management, media, event services and advice to stakeholders to support the delivery of government priorities for the First Peoples portfolio.

Key Accountabilities

- Liaise with stakeholders to develop, implement, and evaluate communications strategies and plans to support government activities, DPC, the Premier and DPC’s Ministers.
- Contribute to planning and strategic activities for the government’s key communication channels, ensuring a coordinated and integrated approach to communication and compliance with best practice, standards, policies, and guidelines.
- Produce high-quality communications materials including media releases, holding lines, responses to media inquiries, communications plans, correspondence, and speeches for DPC, the Premier and DPC’s Ministers.
- Provide support across the branch in the planning and delivery of events and celebrations for DPC, the Premier and DPC’s Ministers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and provide high-quality support and advice, where required, on media and communications issues.
- Maintain efficient and compliant records and briefings for approval by senior stakeholders.




- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and work collaboratively to increase the effectiveness of the team’s communications.
- Understand the sensitives involved in creating communications for diverse audiences and the importance of inclusive and tailored language.
- Other duties as directed.

Desirable requirements

- A tertiary qualification in communications, media or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders in community or government setting.
