The office of Senator Deborah O’Neill is seeking a Parliamentary and Constituent Adviser. This is a full-time, ongoing role based at Australian Parliament House in Canberra, ACT.
About the position The position supports the Senator through coordinating her parliamentary duties and committee engagement, responding to constituent matters, liaising with relevant offices and supporting colleagues with communication, media and administrative tasks as required.
The role works with colleagues to support the Senator’s parliamentary work which includes writing and preparing briefs, undertaking research tasks, planning and executing meetings and events, writing speeches and managing correspondence.
The role provides political advice to the Senator and works with Ministerial and Parliamentary offices on coordinated parliamentary and electorate tasks, while also supporting the Senator’s media and community engagement as required.
The position will involve travel, weekend work and irregular hours may be required.
Roles and responsibilities:
· Coordinate parliamentary duties, event engagement and committee work, preparing briefs and undertaking research and writing tasks as required
· Process, analyse and respond to a wide range of material including constituent correspondence, committee submissions, parliamentary inquiries, media reporting
· Write and produce material to support the Senator’s duties including speeches, research briefs, meeting briefs and other communications materials as required
· Represent the Senator as required in meetings and at events.
· Support the Senator’s parliamentary, policy and electorate priorities.
· Other duties as required and directed.
You should possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:
· Strong understanding of Senator O’Neill’s policy and political objectives and the broader Australian political environment
· Excellent written,
verbal and interpersonal communication skills with attention to detail
· Confidence to work unsupervised and in coordination with team members to respond to strict deadlines, competing priorities and adapt to changing circumstances
· Able to engage with a broad range of stakeholders across parliament, the electorate and the broader community
· Ability to think strategically and develop effective advice relevant to the Senator’s work
Employment conditions:
This position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984, and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:
· A commencing salary between $77,071 and $81,954 (EOA 1-3) will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills;
· An additional optional allowance will be negotiated in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
· An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

· The position is offered as a full time, ongoing position. Requests to consider part-time arrangements can be considered.
· An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
· The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
· Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
· The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under relevant Behaviour Codes and Standards.
