Cadence Connect is exclusively partnered with an established, Australian-owned fintech to find a Senior AI Engineer. Their platform is used by lenders and merchants, so the work is live, regulated and matters to the people using it.

AI is already part of how this business operates. There's a governance charter in place, a retrieval-based assistant in testing for internal documentation and support, and AI coding agents in use across every department. What's needed now is a senior engineer to take ownership of AI delivery across the platform, both internal tools and customer-facing features, and to finish building the governance framework that keeps it all safe and compliant.

You'll report directly to the CTO, with no direct reports, and real authority to push back on projects that don't meet the standard.

What your week looks like

You'll set up evaluation from day one, so nothing reaches production without a measured accuracy baseline. You'll own the guardrails, including PII handling, prompt injection defence, human-in-the-loop checkpoints and audit evidence for anything that touches a regulated decision. Just as importantly, you'll know when AI isn't the answer, and when a rules engine will do the job better.

You'll make sure AI work across the organisation complies with the governance charter, and you'll bring forward current ideas rather than waiting for a brief.

What you'll be building

- Anomaly detection and transaction monitoring across the platform
- Insights generated from transaction and platform data
- A decision-support and audit engine that surfaces recommendations and evidence, with a person making any decision that affects a customer
- Internal and external MCP servers and tooling, extending existing infrastructure
- RAG and knowledge base systems,



including the assistant currently in testing
- Document processing for bank statements and financial agreements
- All hosted on Azure. Azure OpenAI and Azure AI Search are in use today, but the team isn't tied to one provider and the best tool for the job wins

What you'll bring

- 7+ years in software engineering, with AI expertise built on that foundation
- At least one LLM or ML feature shipped to production users, with real numbers on accuracy, cost and latency
- Comfort working in Azure, plus the confidence to evaluate and choose AI tools on merit
- Hands-on experience building labelled datasets and evaluation harnesses, and tracking drift over time. You'll be asked to walk through one you've built
- Sound judgement on where a model adds value and where a rules engine is the better call
- A security-first approach to PII, data residency and prompt injection, particularly where documents may be attacker-controlled
- Confidence enforcing compliance on other people's work
- A habit of keeping up with new models, tools and techniques, and the ability to talk about what's shifted in the past six months
- A degree in IT or Computer Science, or equivalent experience

Nice to have Experience with Azure Document Intelligence or similar OCR and layout-extraction tools, a background in fraud, AML or transaction monitoring (especially reconciliation across multiple payment providers), or time spent in a regulated or high-consequence environment.

**Hybrid working with one day a week in the office and up to four from home, a small team with a direct line to the CTO, birthday leave, regular team lunches and support for ongoing training and development.
