Wanderer Adventures, a proud member of the Searoad Ferries group of companies, is gearing up for the highly anticipated reopening of the Prom General Store at Tidal River, Wilsons Promontory. Positioned inside Victoria's largest and most famous recreation and campground zone, the store serves as the exclusive, vital retail and hospitality hub for more than 500,000 local, interstate, and international tourists annually.
Exciting times are ahead! The Prom General Store is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment to open in time for our peak summer operations. The venue is being completely modernised to feature an amazing selection of retail products, grocery essentials, and an improved food offering with a cool, vibrant atmosphere - all while beautifully retaining the beloved nostalgia of the iconic structure.
We are seeking an energetic, commercially minded, and hands-on Assistant Store Manager to help lead our dynamic team in delivering premium convenience and an exceptional visitor experience in this freshly upgraded venue.
About the role
Supporting the General Manager Operations, you will step into a pivotal leadership position where no two days are the same. you will balance commercial acumen with active people leadership to ensure the seamless running of our grocery, retail, clothing, food & beverage, and postal operations.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- People Leadership: Plan workforce requirements, manage digital rosters, and conduct engaging team briefings and performance development.
- Frontline Excellence: Lead by example on the floor during peak seasonal periods—seamlessly stepping into retail, food prep, or barista-standard coffee service to support your team.
- Commercial Drive:
Compile and analyse sales reports across all departments to identify trends, manage product costs, and optimise store profitability.
- Store Presentation & Ambience: Proactively maintain an inviting, high-energy holiday vibe inside our newly refurbished store, collaborating with the Retail Operations Specialist on visual merchandising and meticulous stock presentation.
- Operational Compliance: Execute daily opening/closing procedures, perform financial reconciliations, oversee the integrated Australia Post outlet, and maintain pristine Food Safety Records.
- Emergency Management: Act decisively in collaboration with the GM/Emergency Management Team during active events.
About You To thrive in this remote, high-volume environment, you will be a resilient, self-sufficient leader who is comfortable balancing shifting seasonal priorities.
Our Essential Requirements
- Proven Leadership: Experience supervising, leading, or mentoring a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Customer Focus: Extensive experience in high-volume customer service, retail, or hospitality operations with strong conflict-resolution skills.
- Advanced Digital Literacy: High proficiency using Microsoft 365 and modern cloud-based workforce management software (e.g., Microkeeper), with the confidence to troubleshoot POS and basic ICT issues.
- Financial Handling: Solid experience executing retail cash reconciliations and processing high-volume EFTPOS transactions.
- Remote Readiness: A genuine desire and capability to live and work harmoniously in a remote regional area within a small, close-knit team.
- Compliance & Checks:
A current National Police Check (or willingness to obtain within 21 days), a Working with Children Check, a First Aid Certificate, and a preparedness to undergo mandatory Australia Post security background checks.
