About the role

Roadways Civil Services is seeking a safety-focused Barrier Rail Installer / Crew Member to join our road safety barrier team. This is a specialist, hands-on role installing, repairing and maintaining road safety barrier systems across Tasmania. It isn't a general civil labouring position. You'll work with barrier rail components, posts, terminals, anchor systems and associated hardware, following project drawings, product requirements and site-specific installation instructions.

We're interested in people who understand accurate set-out, safe plant and tool operation, quality installation and the importance of getting every component aligned, tensioned, connected and documented correctly. Experienced barrier installers are encouraged to apply, and candidates with relevant fencing, steel installation, road maintenance or construction experience may also be considered.

Key responsibilities

- Install and replace road safety barrier systems, including steel beam barrier rail, posts, block-outs, splice connections, terminals, transitions and associated hardware.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of wire rope safety barrier systems where required.
- Read and follow construction drawings, set-out information, manufacturer instructions and project specifications.
- Measure, mark and set out barrier runs, post locations, terminal areas and transitions.
- Install posts using approved plant and methods, checking line, level, height, offset and spacing throughout the work.
- Assemble components using the correct fasteners, orientation and sequence, and tighten connections to specified requirements.
- Install anchorages, foundations and end treatments in accordance with the nominated barrier system.
- Identify damaged,



incorrectly installed or non-conforming components and complete repairs or replacements.
- Operate post drivers, excavators, loaders and other approved mobile plant where trained and authorised.
- Work safely beside live traffic and coordinate with traffic management personnel and other site crews.

About you

- Hands-on experience installing road safety barrier, guardrail, fencing, steel systems or similar linear infrastructure.
- Strong practical ability with accurate measuring, alignment, drilling, bolting, tensioning and component assembly.
- Ability to understand drawings, product details, set-out marks and written installation instructions.
- Good awareness of installation tolerances and the discipline to stop and correct work that doesn't meet requirements.
- Confidence using hand and power tools and working around mobile plant.
- Physical capacity to work outdoors, handle materials and complete repetitive manual tasks safely.
- Clear communication and the ability to coordinate closely with supervisors, operators, traffic controllers and other crew members.
- Current driver's licence.
- Construction Industry White Card.
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices.
