Primary objective

Provide high-level financial management support, advice, analysis and reporting to support effective resource management across Big

Rivers Region. The role assists with budget development, monitoring and performance analysis; supports managers to meet financial accountability requirements; and contributes to continuous improvement, compliance and strengthened internal controls to ensure resources are managed efficiently, effectively and with demonstrated value for money.

A key contributor working in a small professional Big Rivers Regional operating environment including regional and remote service delivery, competing priorities and the need to support operational managers.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Responsible for the assisting with the development of budgets, financial reports and analysis of financial performance for both revenue

and expenditure, within strict timelines and assuring integrity and accuracy of data.
1. Deliver month end and year end reporting and accounting requirements, including journals and accruals.
2. Conduct regular monthly financial management meetings with Branch Heads and cost centre managers, to review financial results,

identify and explain variances to budget and explore corrective measures and options.
1. Administer compliance arrangements for externally funded programs, including financial and activity reporting obligations for acquittal.
2. Maintain compliance with the agency’s financial and reporting obligations under the Financial Management Act, Treasury Circulars,

other NT legislation as well as relevant Commonwealth legislation and Agreements.
1. Identify process improvements to continuously improve and strengthen compliance and internal controls.
2. Undertake research and project work to support the Regional Director Business and Performance, with a commitment to achieving

quality outcomes. Including managing the Business Support Officer, and supporting the Onestaff, Clinical Employment Service and Fleet & Staff Accommodation Teams.

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Experience and technical proficiency in financial management, budget formulation, cost tracking and reporting, collation and analysis

of financial data, and monitoring of procurement, human resources, infrastructure and asset management.
1. High level analytical skills, ability to extract and interrogate financial data to analyse variance to budgets and identify the drivers of

that variance to strengthen internal control and compliance.
1. Extensive experience in the use of Excel to develop reports which support decision making.
2. Demonstrated ability to liaise, coach and provide ongoing support to develop service delivery managers to have a mutual

understanding of responsible cost centre management and budget performance.
1. Ability to prioritise and handle multiple deliverables in a energetic work environment to meet strict timelines.
2. Proven ability to develop, maintain, apply and provide advice on procedures for administrative processes such as procurement, credit

card management, travel arrangements and records management.
1. High level communication skills, both written and verbal, across a broad and varied stakeholder group, including an ability to interact

effectively with people from diverse cultures.
