Business Development & Client Coordinator – Internship
Mills&Co; | Sydney | 2 days per week | Initial 8-week contract
Mills&Co; is looking for a smart, commercially curious Business Development & Client Coordinator Intern to join our growing team.
This is not an internship where you’ll spend eight weeks sitting on the sidelines. You’ll work directly with our business development and client teams, supporting the data, insights, research and coordination that underpin new business activity for some of the leading agency and technology companies across Australia, New Zealand and APAC.
The role is two days per week for an initial eight-week contract, with the opportunity to extend both the duration of the role and the number of days per week for the right person.
About Mills&Co;
Mills&Co; is a growth consultancy that helps agency and technology companies build their profile and new business pipeline. We work as an extension of our clients’ teams, bringing together content, events, PR and strategic lead generation to create an always-on approach to growth.
That means you’ll get exposure not only to business development, but to the broader commercial realities of running and growing agencies and technology businesses.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll initially work closely with our Business Development Managers and client team to support the research, data and coordination behind our client programs. As your knowledge and confidence develop, we want you to take greater ownership and responsibility.
Your work will include
- Researching industries, categories, companies and emerging commercial opportunities for our clients.
- Building and maintaining Target Account Lists aligned with client growth strategies.
- Identifying the most relevant senior decision-makers and buying groups within target organisations.
- Sourcing, validating and managing prospect and contact data.
- Using research and insights to help our BD team understand why an organisation represents a relevant opportunity, rather than simply building lists.
- Supporting client reporting, pipeline management and new business activity.
- Helping prepare for client meetings, events, webinars and business development campaigns.
- Supporting the wider client team with day-to-day coordination and delivery.
- Learning how content, PR, events and direct outreach work together to build profile and pipeline.
- Developing an understanding of CRM, prospecting, data and sales intelligence platforms used in modern B2B business development.
What you’ll learn The opportunity is designed for someone at the beginning of their career who wants exposure to the commercial side of the agency and technology world. You’ll see first-hand how businesses identify growth opportunities, build new business pipelines and turn their expertise into commercial conversations.
You’ll be exposed to areas including:
Business development: How to identify, research, qualify and approach potential clients.
Data and insights: How good research and accurate data underpin effective business development.
Agency growth: How agencies position themselves, differentiate their offering and build sustainable new business pipelines.
Client management: How we operate as an extension of our clients’ teams and manage multiple workstreams and priorities.
Commercial rigour: Why activity alone isn’t enough, and how businesses connect sales and marketing activity to pipeline, revenue and growth.
You’ll also have exposure to senior agency and technology leaders across Mills&Co;’s client base and see how different businesses across ANZ and APAC approach growth.
Who we’re looking for
You don’t need previous agency or business development experience.
We’re more interested in finding someone who is curious, organised, commercially minded and keen to learn.
You’ll likely be studying or have recently completed a degree in marketing, communications, business, commerce or a related field.
You should be someone who:
- Enjoys research and finding the answer to a question.
- Has strong attention to detail, particularly when working with data.
- Is confident using spreadsheets and learning new technology.
- Can communicate clearly and professionally.
- Is interested in advertising, marketing, technology and the businesses behind them.
- Is comfortable taking responsibility for your work.
- Wants to understand how companies actually win new business and grow.
- Is proactive and willing to ask questions rather than waiting to be told what to do next.
The chance
Commitment: Two days per week
Initial term: Eight weeks
Location: Sydney
Opportunity: Potential to extend the contract and increase the number of days per week based on performance and business requirements.
The previous person in this internship started two days a week supporting the team and, over six months, progressed to taking responsibility for much of the data and insights work underpinning our business development activity.
We’re looking for someone who wants the opportunity to do the same: come in, learn quickly, take ownership and make the role their own.
If you’re interested in getting closer to the commercial side of the agency and technology industry and learning what actually goes into building profile, pipeline and new business we’d love to hear from you.
