Category Buyer / Junior Category Buyer Adelaide SA | Full Time | Support Office

An exciting opportunity has become available to join an established national retail business within their Adelaide-based support office.

We’re looking for a commercially minded Category Buyer or Junior Category Buyer who loves product, understands the customer and is ready to take ownership of a category within a fast-paced retail environment.

You may already be working as a Category Buyer, or perhaps you’re an Assistant/Junior Buyer ready to take the next step. What’s most key is that you bring hands-on buying experience, strong commercial instincts and the confidence to work across suppliers, product, performance and range.

About the Role Working as part of a collaborative merchandise team, you’ll help shape and manage a customer-led product range from sourcing through to performance.

Your responsibilities will include

- Building and managing a commercially successful category range
- Sourcing and selecting products in line with customer and market trends
- Negotiating pricing, terms and outcomes with suppliers
- Managing and developing supplier relationships
- Analysing sales, market and category performance to inform buying decisions
- Managing the end-to-end procurement process
- Monitoring gross profit and supporting margin performance
- Working closely with planning, merchandising and marketing teams
- Identifying opportunities to improve range performance and drive sales





About You We’re open to speaking with candidates at different stages of their buying career. You could be an established Category Buyer, or an ambitious Junior/Assistant Buyer looking for greater ownership and the opportunity to step up.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

- Previous buying experience within retail or a product-led business
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
- Commercial awareness and confidence working with sales data
- A genuine interest in product, trends and customer behaviour
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail
- A proactive, commercially focused approach

Experience within fashion, accessories, lifestyle, beauty or another trend-led retail category would translate particularly well, however we’re open to broader retail buying backgrounds.
