This role is within the Avant Investments team and has responsibility for analysing and reviewing the investment strategies for Avant’s portfolios covering Strategic Asset Allocation, Dynamic Asset Allocation and Manager/Fund Selection.

This role is tasked with building, utilising and maintaining models and conducting research to support the investment strategy review and monitoring processes as well as providing analytical support to the broader team.

This role also mentors and supports analysts in the team and provides back-up coverage for other team members' responsibilities as required.

Key Responsibilities

Conducting research and analysis to support the SAA, DAA and investment manager selection processes

- Run, maintain and enhance internal models used to support SAA reviews (including Asset/Liability analysis), DAA tilts, manager and fund recommendations, and investment trades.
- Conduct research and analysis to support investment strategy reviews.
- Review and enhance investment research processes.

Developing investment strategy recommendations

- Develop investment recommendations covering SAA, DAA and manager selection.

Primary or secondary responsibility for monitoring and reviewing managers for designated asset classes

- Set up regular meetings with managers.
- Resolve investment-related issues with managers.
- Review and monitor manager performance and prepare commentary for performance reports.
- Assist with the tracking of investment fund/strategy information.
- Assist with the review of annual due diligence material provided by managers.

Ensuring performance reporting is accurate and insightful

- Prepare performance and risk reports for management and the Board Investment Committee.
- Enhance performance and risk reporting.

Preparing Investment Committee papers

- Prepare high quality, concise papers for the Board Investment Committee.
- Prepare ad hoc papers for the Board Investment Committee and senior management as required.




- Contribute to building the confidence and trust of the Board Investment Committee and senior management in the internal Investments team.

Mentoring and assisting others

- Mentor and assist analysts in the team
- Provide back-up for other members of the team
- Provide peer review of investment models, papers and strategy recommendations
- Assist other team members as required.
- Assist internal stakeholders on investment-related queries.

About You

Key Capabilities Required (Qualifications, Experience and Skills):

- Tertiary qualifications in a finance or related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years investment/finance related experience
- Hands-on experience with financial analysis and quantitative modelling to support investment decision making covering at least one of the following: Strategic Asset Allocation, Energetic/Tactical Asset Allocation, portfolio management or manager selection
- Excellent Excel skills
- Demonstrated understanding of investment markets, asset class characteristics, portfolio construction and investment risk concepts.
- Attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to show initiative and be curious
- Demonstrated ability to influence constructively
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Capabilities (Qualifications, Experience and Skills):

- Post graduate studies (e.g. CFA, FIAA, CIMA)
- Previous experience writing board and committee papers
- Experience in the management of investment assets for an insurance company or asset/liability management
- Experience with programming or statistical tools (e.g. Python or R)
- Experience with investment reporting
- Experience managing or mentoring investment analysts




- Awareness of ESG integration or responsible investment practices
