As a crucial part of the business, FinDreams Battery was 100% funded by BYD, to provide battery energy solutions to our broader range of clients. We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Contract Specialist based in Sydney to grow our sales network in Australia.
About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Senior Contract Specialist to join our Energy Storage team in Sydney.
The role will primarily support the review, negotiation, and management of commercial contracts for local BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) projects in Australia.
Working closely with Sales, Legal, Finance, Engineering, Project Delivery, Procurement, and After-Sales teams, you will help identify and manage key contractual and commercial risks, coordinate internal reviews, and ensure contracts are aligned with company policies, approved commercial positions, and project requirements.
This is an excellent prospect for a contract or commercial qualified looking to develop expertise in renewable energy, BESS and large-scale energy infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Review customer contracts, supply agreements, purchase orders, amendments and other commercial agreements.
Identify and assess key risks relating to payment, delivery, liquidated damages, warranty, performance guarantees, liability, indemnity, termination, commissioning and Commercial Operation Date (COD).
Compare customer terms against company standards and approved commercial terms, and relevant project requirements.
Prepare contract review comments, deviation lists, risk summaries, and internal approval materials.
Coordinate with Legal and relevant internal teams on legal or high-risk contractual matters and ensure appropriate escalation where required.
2. BESS Project Contract Management
Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the commercial and contractual structure of BESS projects.
Understand key BESS contractual matters, including equipment supply scope, delivery and acceptance, warranty and performance guarantees, commissioning and COD, augmentation, LTSA/O&M;, payment milestones, liquidated damages, and interface responsibilities .
Support the business in assessing contractual implications arising from project scope changes, technical requirements, delivery schedules, and customer requests.
Apply lessons learned from previous projects to future contract reviews and negotiations.
3. Contract Negotiation Support
Support Sales and Legal teams in contract negotiations with customers, developers, EPC contractors, and other project stakeholders.
Prepare and maintain contract negotiation trackers, issue lists, and action items.
Analyse customer comments and proposed amendments and coordinate internal responses.
Support meetings and discussions with customers on contractual and commercial matters.
Ensure agreed positions and outstanding issues are clearly documented and appropriately escalated.
4. Cross-Functional Coordination
Act as a key coordination point between Sales, Legal, Finance, Engineering, Project Delivery, Procurement, and After-Sales teams during the contract review process.
Consolidate and coordinate internal comments to ensure efficient and timely responses to customers.
Track outstanding contractual issues, approvals, and actions through to closure.
Escalate material contractual or commercial risks to management where required.
Help ensure different functions have a clear understanding of their respective contractual obligations and responsibilities.
5. Contract Lifecycle Management
Support the contract lifecycle from initial review through negotiation, internal approval, execution, and post-signature management.
Maintain accurate contract records and documentation in relevant internal systems, including CRM, legal review systems, and OA.
Monitor key contractual milestones, obligations, notices, and deliverables.
Support contract amendments, variations, extensions, and other post-award contractual matters.
6. Contract Process & Knowledge Improvement
Develop and maintain contract review checklists, templates, standard positions, and risk assessment tools.
Identify recurring contractual issues and recommend improvements to internal processes.
Maintain a database of key contractual deviations, customer positions, and lessons learned.
Support the development of standard commercial and contractual positions for future BESS projects.
Contribute to improving the efficiency and consistency of the contract review process across the Australian business.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree or above in Law, Business, Commerce, Engineering, or a related discipline .
A legal background is highly preferred.
Experience
Previous experience in contract review, contract management, commercial operations, legal support, or project commercial management .
Experience in the energy, renewable energy, BESS, infrastructure, construction, EPC, or related industries is highly desirable.
Experience reviewing commercial contracts in the Australian market is highly desirable.
Candidates with experience in large-scale energy or infrastructure projects are encouraged to apply.
Language Skills
Fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
