These roles report to the General Manager of the Courts and Justice Services Policy Group.

Our Chief Advisors provide trusted strategic advice, thought leadership and support to senior leaders across Policy Group. You will help shape and deliver policy priorities that contribute to a fair, accessible and effective justice system and champion the fundamental justice principles that we uphold in our policy work.

The Courts And Justice Services Policy Unit Provides Advice To Support a Fair And Trusted Justice System.

Courts And Tribunals, With a Strong Focus On Improving Access To Justice And Strengthening People's Trust In The Law.

We Are Recruiting For Two Chief Advisor Positions Chief Advisor, Policy - Permanent Our Chief Advisors provide strategic policy leadership across a broad portfolio of justice policy issues. You will support the General Manager and the Policy Leadership Team to achieve the Policy Group and Business Unit's outcomes and goals. You will be a trusted sounding board for the General Manager and the Unit's policy managers, contributing to a strong and supportive management team. You will support the development of policy advice, help shape the direction of complex and often high-profile work programmes and provide thought leadership across Policy Group. Working closely with senior leaders, the judiciary, Ministers' offices and key stakeholders, you will help navigate emerging challenges, influence strategic outcomes, and strengthen policy capability.

Te Au Reka - Fixed Term to December 2028

Te Au Reka is the new digital case flow management system being developed by the Ministry of Justice and the judiciary that will help transform the administration of courts in New Zealand. In this role, you will lead the programme of policy and court rules changes required to support the implementation of Te Au Reka across the courts system. You will work closely with senior Ministry leaders, the judiciary and programme stakeholders, ensuring strong connections between the Te Au Reka programme and Policy Group, while providing strategic advice that supports informed decision-making and successful delivery.

These roles are ideal for experienced policy professionals who enjoy navigating complexity, influencing outcomes, building capability and providing strategic leadership. A legal background and familiarity with the justice or court system would be a significant advantage.

If you have proven yourself as an experienced policy leader and coach, we want to hear from you. You will:

- Be an influential leader with demonstrated experience building trusted relationships and influencing a wide range of stakeholders, able to work with others to problem solve
- Provide intellectual leadership across teams and programmes of work, building capability and culture across Policy Group
- Quickly grasp complex issues and provide timely and trusted advice to the General Manager and other senior leaders




- Show exceptional political acumen and judgement, with the ability to anticipate risks, navigate sensitive issues, and operate effectively within a ministerial environment
- Bring an understanding of Te Āo Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi / Treaty of Waitangi
- Enjoy developing others through coaching, mentoring, quality assurance, and capability building.

Utu ā-tau/Salary The appointing salary range for this role is between $177,308 to $228,440 and will be based on skills and experience.
