Solo Resource Recovery (Solo) is a dynamic family-owned Business operating for over 90 years in the waste industry, with operations across most states of Australia. We are looking to recruit a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who can demonstrate a history of achievement, strong commercial and financial acumen, strategic thinking and the drive to contribute to the continued development and success of the Business.

This Executive role requires a balance of robust financial leadership, commercial awareness and strategic thinking, with the ability to understand the operational drivers of our Business. Working closely with the Directors, CEO and other members of the C-Suite, the CFO will provide leadership across financial management, budgeting and forecasting, performance reporting, cash flow, capital management, governance and commercial decision-making.

The CFO role will be based at Solo’s Head Office in Chinderah, Northern NSW, however consideration will be given to a hybrid working model. Periodic intra and interstate travel to Solo’s branches will be required.

We are looking for candidates with proven financial and Team leadership experience, preferably with a multi-site business operation. The successful candidate will be afforded the latitude, and encouraged, to exercise their own professional judgement and introduce processes and systems that improve financial visibility, accountability, profitability and overall Business performance in concert with the Directors and C-Suite.

It is essential for the role that applicants are able to clearly demonstrate through their qualifications, experience and references the following skills and attributes:

- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, commerce or a related discipline, with CPA, CA or equivalent professional qualifications essential.

- Strong commercial and financial acumen with the ability to contribute strategically to the stability and growth of the Business.

- Proven experience in senior financial leadership, including development and mentoring of the Finance Team.





- Advanced tendering, budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and analytical capabilities.

- Ability to develop meaningful financial and operational performance measures across branches, contracts, customers and other associated business units.

- Strong understanding of profitability, margins, cash flow, working capital and return on capital.

- Experience in financial governance, internal controls, statutory reporting, taxation and audit requirements.

- Ability to evaluate business cases for major capital expenditure, investments and growth opportunities.

- Experience with acquisitions, financial due diligence and business integration would be highly regarded.

- Commercial understanding of contracts, tenders and pricing, with the ability to identify financial risks and opportunities.

- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex financial matters in clear commercial terms.

- Ability to work collaboratively with the Directors, CEO, C-Suite and operational management while maintaining appropriate financial discipline.

- A practical and analytical mind allowing for a structured approach to problem solving and change management.

- High standards of integrity, accountability and confidentiality.

- A work ethic that is both service and productivity oriented.

- Whilst a background in the waste management industry is preferred, applicants with senior financial experience in transport, logistics, manufacturing, engineering, infrastructure or other asset-intensive operational industries are also encouraged to apply.
