About the role of Chief Veterinary Officer The Chief Veterinary Officer is a critical leadership role accountable for ensuring the highest standards of veterinary regulation and governance; regulatory compliance and biosecurity across thoroughbred training and racing.

A senior veterinary and industry leader, the Chief Veterinary Officer provides professional, balanced and evidence-based advice, strategic direction and empowering leadership to Racing Victoria’s veterinary function, ensuring it continues to support the integrity,



safety and sustainability of the thoroughbred racing industry.

The Chief Veterinary Officer plays a critical role in shaping veterinary policy and operating practices, advising on and communicating complex matters, and working collaboratively with industry participants, regulators and service providers to promote best-practice outcomes for horses and people. The Chief Veterinary Officer is central to maintaining public confidence in the integrity, safety and equine welfare standards of Victorian thoroughbred racing.

As a subject matter expert, the Chief Veterinary Officer is recognised for their sound judgement, technical expertise and balanced advice. They confidently and comprehensively represent Racing Victoria nationally and internationally while building and maintaining trusted relationships across the racing industry, including with regulators, government, research and industry bodies, laboratory and testing providers, trainers, owners, jockeys, treating veterinarians and stewards.

About You

This is an important leadership role for Racing Victoria, requiring a tertiary qualified veterinarian with broad experience in equine practice and substantial regulatory experience in thoroughbred horse racing.





You will bring exceptional communication and engagement skills to professionally represent Racing Victoria as a recognised specialist in equine practices; to build productive and trusted relationships with key stakeholders and to resolve or negotiate through potential disputes.

You will be comfortable advising on complex and sensitive matters, including issues that may attract public, industry or media attention.

Strong written capabilities and experience will be required for writing policies; standards, processes and procedures and other internal and external reports.

You bring empowering team leadership and the ability to work under tight time constraints, often with changing priorities and / or within emergency situations and conditions.
