Rob Carr Pty Ltd delivers complex underground infrastructure projects across Australia, specialising in microtunnelling, trenchless construction and water and utilities projects. We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead contractual risk, negotiations, claims and dispute management across our tenders and projects.

This is a contract-led commercial role, not a finance-led position. It will suit a construction lawyer, in-house construction legal professional or senior commercial specialist with strong construction-law and claims expertise.

About the Role

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will work with Pre-Contracts, Operations, Finance and project teams to identify risk, preserve entitlement and resolve commercial issues. Your focus will be construction law, contractual risk and entitlement management rather than financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead contractual reviews of tenders, head contracts, subcontracts and supply agreements
- Prepare and negotiate departures, qualifications, clarifications and contract amendments
- Advise on risks to accept, price, mitigate, escalate or reject
- Establish contract administration frameworks covering notices, time bars, records and obligations
- Prepare and negotiate variations, extensions of time, delay,



disruption, prolongation and latent-condition claims
- Guide security of payment, payment schedule and adjudication strategy
- Manage subcontractor and supplier claims, defaults, set-off and termination rights
- Lead dispute avoidance, settlement negotiations and formal dispute-resolution processes
- Manage external legal advisers and experts
- Report on material contractual exposures and strengthen commercial capability across project teams

About You

You combine strong construction-contract knowledge with practical commercial judgement and can turn complex legal issues into clear recommendations.

You will ideally have

- Substantial construction or infrastructure contracting experience gained in private practice, in-house or in a senior contract-led commercial role
- A law degree and Australian admission, or equivalent recognised legal qualification
- Postgraduate construction-law qualifications and experience in civil infrastructure, utilities, tunnelling, trenchless or geotechnical works will be highly regarded
- Experience drafting and negotiating complex construction contracts
- Practical experience with variations, extensions of time, delay, disruption and prolongation claims
- Knowledge of Australian standard-form and design and construct contracts
- Practical security of payment and adjudication experience
- Robust negotiation, drafting and stakeholder-management skills
- The ability to work with project and cost records to establish causation, entitlement and quantum
- A current driver licence and capacity to travel to projects as required
