Company Description The Museum of Migrations is a creative initiative led by Melbourne-based artist and filmmaker Ettore Siracusa, whose work focuses on migrant storytelling and the experience of displacement and belonging. Through short films and video works, the museum explores place making, cultural memory, and the role of film archives in preserving diverse narratives. It operates within a contemporary field of expanded cinema and audiovisual arts, blending experimental practices with documentary and personal histories.

Potential team members will join a small, collaborative environment committed to amplifying migrant voices and developing innovative public-facing projects.

Role Description The Communications Assistant is a full-time, in office role based in Melbourne, VIC, supporting the museum’s public presence and audience engagement. In this role, the Communications Assistant drafts and distributes press releases, maintains media contact lists, and helps coordinate communication campaigns. Day-to-day responsibilities include writing and editing content for web, social media, newsletters, and program materials, as well as assisting with strategic communications planning and internal information sharing.

The role involves monitoring media coverage,



updating communication assets, supporting event promotion, and collaborating closely with curatorial and administrative staff to ensure consistent messaging aligned with the museum’s mission.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated skills in Communication and Writing, with the ability to produce clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.
- Experience preparing Press Releases and working with media or publicity channels.
- Knowledge of Strategic Communications, including campaign planning and audience-focused messaging.
- Skills in Internal Communications, supporting information flow and documentation within a team or organization.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Comfort working on-site in a collaborative, creative environment and engaging respectfully with migrant and multicultural communities.
- Familiarity with digital communication tools and social media platforms; experience in arts, culture, or community organizations is an advantage.

- Relevant tertiary studies or equivalent practical experience in communications, media, arts, or a related field.
