About the role

Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service is seeking a Community Engagement Support Officer - AOD (Alcohol and Other Drugs) to join our dedicated team in Katherine, NT. This is a full time position that plays a crucial role in connecting our community with essential alcohol and other drug support services. You will be instrumental in raising awareness, building trust, and facilitating engagement with vulnerable populations who may benefit from our services.

This role is based in Katherine NT 0850 and offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by substance use issues.

Key responsibilities

- Develop and implement community engagement strategies to promote awareness of alcohol and other drug services within Katherine and surrounding areas

- Build and maintain relationships with community members, service users, carers, and stakeholders to understand needs and barriers to service access

- Conduct outreach activities and attendance at community events, organisations, schools, and workplaces to promote AOD programs and services

- Support the recruitment and retention of service users by providing information, advice, and assistance with accessing AOD support services

- Facilitate culturally appropriate communication between the health service and community groups, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

- Collect feedback from service users and community members to inform service improvements and program development

- Assist in the delivery of education and prevention programs related to alcohol and other drug use

- Work collaboratively with other team members,



allied health professionals, and external agencies to ensure coordinated care and service delivery

- Maintain accurate records and documentation of engagement activities and service referrals

- Contribute to the development of community resources and promotional materials

What we're looking for

- Demonstrated experience in community engagement, outreach, or support work, preferably within health, social services, or community development sectors

- Understanding of alcohol and other drug issues, including their health and social impacts on individuals, families, and communities

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport with diverse and vulnerable populations

- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, or willingness to develop cultural competency in this area

- Knowledge of local community networks, services, and resources in the Katherine region or ability to quickly build this knowledge

- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced workplace

- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail in record-keeping





- Commitment to confidentiality, privacy, and ethical practice

- Current driver's license and willingness to travel within the region

- Relevant qualifications in health, social work, community development, or related fields are highly valued

- First aid certification or willingness to obtain it is desirable
