About Bammana

Bammana is an Aboriginal-owned business based in Adelaide. Through our Night Patrol, we provide safe overnight transport and outreach for Remote Visitors in the Adelaide CBD, seven nights a week. We work alongside SAPOL, SAAS, the Royal Adelaide Hospital and other services to keep people safe and connected.

We're looking for a Community Engagement Officer to strengthen the Night Patrol's connections with the community and our partner agencies.

About the role The Community Engagement Officer is the link between the Night Patrol, the communities we serve, and the agencies we work with. You'll build trusted relationships with Remote Visitors, families and Aboriginal community organisations, and represent Bammana with government, health and service partners. The role suits someone who is culturally grounded, confident talking with anyone from a community elder to a hospital manager, and passionate about making a real difference for Aboriginal people in Adelaide.

The role will be 3 shifts a week (flexible nights) potentially the ability to increase if the right fit. Our shifts run from 6pm-1am.

What you'll be doing

- Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with Aboriginal communities, Remote Visitors and their families, including communities from regional and remote SA and interstate.
- Act as a key contact for partner agencies such as SAPOL, SAAS, RAH and Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, attending stakeholder meetings and interagency forums on Bammana's behalf.
- Identify client needs beyond transport, and connect people with appropriate support services such as health, housing,



legal and return-to-country assistance.
- Gather feedback from clients, community and partners, and share insights with management to help improve the Night Patrol service.
- Raise awareness of the Night Patrol within community and among services, so people know how and when to access it.
- Contribute to reporting by recording engagement activities, outcomes and client stories in line with contract requirements.
- Uphold cultural safety in all aspects of the Night Patrol and support the team with cultural guidance where needed.
- Work regularly alongside the Night Patrol team to stay connected with frontline service delivery.

What we're looking for

- Demonstrated experience in community engagement, outreach, or a related field within Indigenous and/or multicultural services
- Strong understanding of and respect for Indigenous cultures, traditions, and protocols, or lived experience within Indigenous communities
- Knowledge of multicultural community needs, barriers to access, and culturally competent service delivery
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse audiences
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with community members, stakeholders,



and cross-functional teams
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple engagement activities simultaneously
- Cultural sensitivity and awareness, with a genuine commitment to reducing barriers for Indigenous and multicultural communities
- Ability to work autonomously and use initiative whilst contributing positively to a team environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with community engagement or database management systems is desirable
- A valid driver's licence is advantageous for community-based work
- WWCC
- Relevant qualifications in community development, social work, community services, or a related field are preferred
