About the role

Pho Viet is a well established Vietnamese Noodle Bar/ Restaurant located in Cairns, QLD. We are seeking an experienced Cook to join our kitchen team. This is a full-time position based at our Cairns QLD location.

As Cook, you will play a vital role in delivering authentic Vietnamese cuisine and exceptional dining experiences to our valued customers. You will be responsible for preparing meals to the highest standards, maintaining food quality and consistency, and ensuring our kitchen operates efficiently and safely at all times. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is passionate about cooking, works well under pressure and takes pride in the quality and presentation of their food.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare and cook Vietnamese dishes in accordance with our recipes and menu.
- Prepare ingredients including meat, poultry, seafood, vegetables, herbs, noodles, rice and sauces.
- Assist with preparation of pho broth, noodle dishes, rice dishes, stir-fries, soups and other Vietnamese specialties.
- Ensure food is cooked and presented to the required standard.
- Maintain consistency in flavour, portion size and presentation.
- Assist with daily food preparation and kitchen organisation.
- Monitor food quality and freshness.
- Store food correctly and maintain appropriate stock rotation.
- Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen, including work surfaces, cooking equipment and utensils.
- Minimise food wastage and use ingredients efficiently.




- Assist with stock control and notify management when ingredients are running low.
- Work efficiently during busy service periods.
- Follow directions from the Head Chef/Chef and work cooperatively with other kitchen staff.

What we're looking for

- Proven experience as a Cook in a professional kitchen environment, preferably with Vietnamese or Asian cuisine
- Good knowledge of Vietnamese cooking techniques, ingredients and flavours.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods and ingredient handling
- Excellent understanding of food hygiene, food safety protocols and health regulations
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet service demands during busy periods
- Strong organisational and time management skills with attention to detail
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Physical fitness and stamina to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
- Relevant food safety certification, Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification, or willingness to obtain certification is desirable
