Senior Power BI Specialist n

Location: Brisbane / Carseldine
Contract: 6-12 months initially, with robust potential for extension
Working Arrangement: Hybrid - minimum 50% office-based, up to 50% WFH
Level: Senior Specialist / AO7 equivalent

About the Role n

We are seeking an experienced Senior Power BI Specialist to join a major Queensland Government environment supporting complex digital, data and transformation initiatives.

n

This is more than a standard Power BI Developer role. We are looking for a senior-level Power BI SME who can work across the full Power BI lifecycle - from understanding business and stakeholder requirements through to data modelling, solution design, development, performance optimisation, governance and continuous improvement.

n

You will work closely with senior stakeholders, data analysts, architects and engineers to transform complex data into meaningful enterprise reporting, executive dashboards, program insights and actionable information .

What You'll Be Doing n

n
- Lead the design and development of complex Power BI reporting and analytics solutions.
n
- Engage with senior stakeholders to understand business questions, decisions and desired outcomes.
n
- Challenge and refine reporting requirements and recommend effective analytical and visualisation approaches.
n
- Design and develop sophisticated semantic models, data models and enterprise reporting solutions.
n
- Develop star schemas and dimensional data models.
n
- Create advanced DAX measures and calculations.
n
- Use Power Query / M to transform and prepare data.
n
- Work with SQL and complex data sources and integrations.
n




- Develop enterprise dashboards and reporting for executives, programs and project teams.
n
- Optimise Power BI solutions for performance, scalability and usability.
n
- Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and appropriate security controls.Contribute to Power BI governance, workspace management and tenant considerations.
n
- Ensure data quality, validation and reporting accuracy.
n
- Collaborate with data architects and engineers on broader data and analytics solutions.
n
- Act as a Power BI SME, providing technical advice across projects and teams.
n
- Provide guidance and mentoring to Power BI developers and analysts where required.
n

Experience across the broader Microsoft data and analytics ecosystem will be highly regarded, including:

- Power Automate, particularly for reporting and data workflow automation

Fabric and Power Automate are not mandatory , but experience in these areas would strengthen your application.
