Carbal is looking for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Liaison Officer to join our Growing Deadly Families (GDF) team in Toowoomba.

You'll be a trusted cultural connection between women and families, community and Carbal's multidisciplinary health team, helping families feel supported, understood and confident accessing the health and community services they need.

About the Role The Growing Deadly Families Cultural Liaison Officer plays an important role in helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families connect with culturally safe health care and community support.

You'll build trusted relationships with women, children and families, provide practical support and advocacy, help people navigate health and community services and strengthen communication between clients and Carbal's clinical teams.

As a trusted cultural connector, you'll also help our broader team understand the cultural considerations that support positive experiences and better outcomes for families.

You'll work alongside GPs, Midwives, Aboriginal Health Workers, Practice Nurses, Allied Health professionals and other members of the Growing Deadly Families team, helping provide coordinated care from pregnancy through early childhood and family wellbeing.

What You'll Be Doing

Supporting Women & Families

- Provide culturally safe support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, children and families participating in Growing Deadly Families

- Build respectful and trusting relationships with clients and families

- Provide practical support to help families access health, social and community services





- Help families understand health information and feel confident participating in decisions about their care

- Encourage independence, resilience and confidence in managing health and wellbeing

Cultural Liaison & Advocacy

- Act as an important cultural connection between clients, families and the multidisciplinary health care team

- Promote culturally safe communication and respectful engagement

- Advocate for clients and families to support equitable access to health and community services

- Help identify and address barriers that may make accessing services difficult

- Support culturally appropriate service delivery

- Share cultural knowledge and considerations that help Carbal staff provide respectful and effective care

Care Coordination & Referrals

- Work with GPs, Midwives, Aboriginal Health Workers, Nurses and Allied Health professionals to coordinate client care

- Help connect families with appropriate Carbal programs and external services

- Support referrals to health, community and family support services

- Follow up appointments and encourage ongoing engagement with health care

- Support continuity of care throughout pregnancy, early childhood and family wellbeing

Community Engagement & Health Promotion

- Participate in community outreach, education and health promotion

- Promote the Growing Deadly Families Program within community

- Assist with community events, education sessions and wellbeing initiatives

- Build positive relationships with Elders, families, community organisations and partner agencies

- Help identify emerging community needs and opportunities to strengthen services

Working as Part of the GDF Team

- Work collaboratively within Carbal's multidisciplinary team

- Participate in case discussions and coordinated care planning where appropriate

- Maintain accurate client records and program documentation

- Assist with program data, reporting and quality improvement

- Participate in professional development and mandatory training

- Contribute ideas and community perspectives to the ongoing development of Growing Deadly Families

You'll Be a Great Fit If You...

We're looking for someone with robust cultural knowledge, community connection and relationship-building skills. You don't necessarily need to come to us with years of health-sector experience.

Essential

- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander

- Have a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, family, kinship and community connections

- Have demonstrated experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities

- Be able to build trust, rapport and meaningful relationships with community members

- Have experience in client support, advocacy, care coordination, community engagement or a similar people-focused role

- Have strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills

- Be comfortable working independently while also contributing to a multidisciplinary team

- Be willing to obtain or work towards a Certificate III in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or a related qualification





- Hold a current Open C Class Driver Licence valid in Queensland

- Hold a current Blue Card, or be eligible to obtain one

- Hold current CPR certification, or be willing to obtain it

Highly Regarded

- Certificate III in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, Community Services, Individual Support or a related discipline

- Experience within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation

- Experience supporting maternal health, child health, family wellbeing or community health programs

- Knowledge of primary health care, maternal and child health and community support services

- Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid or other relevant cultural or health qualifications
