About the Opportunity

We're looking for a Development Officer - Building to join our Development Services Team. Reporting to the Manager Development Services, you'll assess building applications, undertake inspections, provide skilled advice and contribute to positive development outcomes within our community.

Joining a supportive and experienced team, you'll have the opportunity to develop your expertise across a diverse range of building assessment, compliance and development matters. Applications from both experienced professionals and suitably qualified graduates are encouraged.

While we are seeking a full-time employee, part-time arrangements will be considered for the right candidate. Appointment level and remuneration will be determined based on qualifications, accreditation and demonstrated experience.

What You’ll Do:

- Customer service & stakeholder engagement: Respond to enquiries on building and development matters and liaise with applicants, industry representatives, government agencies and internal stakeholders to support positive outcomes and a customer-focused culture.

- Application assessment & approvals: Assess and process building applications in accordance with relevant legislation, the National Construction Code and Council requirements,



including determining approval pathways and maintaining accurate system records.

- Compliance, inspections & enforcement: Undertake inspections and investigate compliance matters to ensure development complies with approved plans and legislative requirements, including enforcement activities where required.

- Records, reporting & governance: Prepare reports, correspondence and other building-related documentation while maintaining accurate records in accordance with Council requirements.

- Continuous improvement: Contribute to process improvements, service delivery outcomes and the achievement of team and organisational objectives.

What You’ll Bring:

- A Certificate of Accreditation from the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors (AIBS) as a Limited Building Surveyor or Building Surveyor or currently working towards.

- Accreditation as an Accredited Professional – Building - Level 1, 2 or 3 under the Planning, Development, and Infrastructure (Accredited Professionals) Regulations 2019, or currently working towards.

- Knowledge of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016,



National Construction Code and legislation relevant to building assessment and compliance.

- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide quality customer service and build positive working relationships.

- Sound analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgement.

- A proactive approach to learning, continuous improvement and professional development.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using, or the ability to quickly learn, relevant industry systems including the SA Planning Portal.
