About the Role
Reporting to the Managing Partners, the Director of Legal Operations is a senior role with responsibility for legal operations strategy, practice performance, operational risk and the teams that support our lawyers. You will work closely with Partners and business services leaders to improve client service, strengthen commercial performance and build an operating model that can support continued growth
You will lead the National Practice Manager and other operational team members, with responsibility for improving practice support, service standards and operational performance across our offices.
This is an opportunity to influence decisions at leadership level while staying close to the practical challenges of delivering legal services.
Your priorities will include
- Lead the firm’s legal operations strategy and annual operating plan, setting clear priorities and measures of success.
- Partner with practice leaders to improve matter flow, work allocation, capacity planning, turnaround times and service standards.
- Lead and develop the National Practice Manager and other operational team members, with oversight of practice support and administration across the firm.
- Drive improvements to legal workflows, matter management, document production and knowledge sharing, working with IT and legal teams on useful technology and automation.
- Use reporting and commercial insights to identify opportunities to improve productivity, recoverability, resourcing and matter economics.
- Coordinate operational risk and compliance activities, including controls,
reviews, training and follow-up actions.
- Lead change across practices and offices, bringing Partners and teams with you through clear communication and practical implementation.
About you
You are an experienced operations leader who can work at both a strategic and practical level. You understand the demands of a professional services environment, can earn the confidence of senior stakeholders and know how to turn plans into measurable improvements.
You will bring significant senior leadership experience in legal operations, practice management, professional services operations or a comparable setting. You will have led teams across multiple offices, delivered complex change and improved workflows using processes, technology and data.
Strong commercial judgment, experience with operational risk and compliance, and the ability to develop capable managers are essential.
Experience in a growing mid-tier law firm, with legal practice management systems, automation, would be valuable.
