About the role The Director of Primary provides strategic and operational leadership for Prep–Year 6 at St John's Lutheran School. This role ensures high-quality teaching and learning, effective staff development, and the holistic care of students. Working closely with the Principal and leadership team, the Director of Primary drives curriculum innovation, pedagogical excellence, wellbeing, and community engagement in alignment with the Christian ethos and mission of the school.

Key responsibilities

- Lead the strategic direction of the Primary years, ensuring excellence in curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment.
- Promote and model evidence-based teaching and learning practices that enhance student outcomes.
- Ensure curriculum compliance with national and state requirements, embedding Lutheran ethos and values.
- Oversee implementation and monitoring of literacy, numeracy, and wellbeing initiatives.
- Analyse data to inform teaching practice and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead, mentor, and support Primary staff to foster a culture of skilled growth and collaboration.
- Conduct performance development and coaching conversations, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
- Oversee the pastoral and spiritual care of students, ensuring they feel safe, supported, and valued.
- Build strong relationships with parents and caregivers through open, respectful communication.
- Oversee Primary timetables, rosters, and class structures in consultation with the Principal.

About you

- Current registration with Queensland College of Teachers.
- Demonstrated success in educational leadership.




- Strong understanding of the Lutheran ethos or willingness to embrace and support it.
- Experience in restorative practices, curriculum leadership, and staff development.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire staff to achieve high standards.
- Robust communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- High-level organisational and time-management capacity.
- Ability to think strategically while managing day-to-day operations.
- Commitment to collaborative, servant-based leadership.

Demonstrated experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing staff, and leading professional learning aligned with school priorities and AITSL Standards.

Commitment to Child Safety and Inclusive Practice

Sound knowledge of current legislation, policies, and practices relating to child protection with a demonstrated commitment to upholding a safe and supportive environment for all students.
