Primary objective

Provide strategic leadership and direction to effectively deliver sustainable bushfire management outcomes across the Northern Territory,

including high-level advice and guidance regarding bushfire and organisational risk mitigation, compliance, enforcement and regulatory functions.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead wildfire response roles under Ministerial appointment as the Chief Fire Control Officer for the Northern Territory, including

developing and preparing executive level advice, reports, briefings and policies.
1. Lead, direct and motivate a multi-functional team of experienced professional, technical and administrative staff to meet strategic and

operational objectives,



ensuring supporting systems are in place to build competencies.
1. Oversee the development and implementation of contemporary strategic bushfire management planning across the Northern

Territory, including risk assessment, mitigation and suppression strategies and management of compliance activities.
1. Develop, implement and contemporise standards, policies and procedures related to fire management and mitigation activities through

a process of continuous review, ensuring compliance with work health and safety legislation and supporting the achievement of Bushfires NT operational objectives.
1. Foster and maintain productive working relationships across governments, within industry and non-government organisations,

including landowners, volunteers, executive management, national bodies and jurisdictional peers, to foster collaboration, manage risk and support program delivery.
1. Represent the NT Government at senior inter-governmental forums and contribute to the strategic agenda of the Regional Bushfires

Committees and Bushfires Council.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Superior strategic leadership and management skills to set high standards of performance and organisation of work priorities, with a

proven ability to lead change, influence outcomes, build teams and achieve measurable results.
1. Qualifications and experience in Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System (AIIMS) Level 2 Incident Controller.
2.



Tertiary qualification in emergency management or other relevant discipline combined with relevant senior executive experience, or

equivalent combination of substantial relevant senior executive experience and education or training.
1. Proven ability to build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, bringing communication, interpersonal, negotiation

and team-oriented skills together with the ability to accurately analyse and clearly communicate complex issues.
1. Extensive experience and highly developed abilities in strategic planning, leadership and decision making in a complex and politically

sensitive organisational environment.
1. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with the senior leadership team to set and drive the strategic direction of the organisation

and ability to shape and link operational business plan delivery to strategic planning and policy as well as provide influential high-level advice to government.
1. Comprehensive knowledge of local and national legislation, policy, standards and trends relating to land management, bushfire

management and emergency response, including sound understanding of innovative practices in incident management.
1. A demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams, lead others to achieve results, and inspire, engage, and motivate people.

1. Strategic leadership experience in an organistion with a high volunteer workforce which is geographically disperse

Further information The position is located at Acacia Hills, 50 km from Darwin. The incumbent will require a Working with Children Card and a current criminal history check. During periods of heightened operational activity, the incumbent will be required to provide operational support across the Territory, including travel and work in remote locations.
