Disability Support Worker – Individual Community & Creative Support

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are recruiting a small, consistent team for individual, participant-led community support. This is not a group-activities facilitator role. We welcome applications from support workers who can offer reliable ongoing availability, clear communication and respectful, person-centred support.

Proposed assignments are subject to participant matching, service arrangements and completed recruitment and compliance checks. Shift days and hours will be discussed; no minimum hours or immediate start are guaranteed.

WHAT THE SUPPORT INVOLVES

- Community access, social and recreational activities, events and creative or cultural activities.
- Support to attend study activities, meetings and appointments, including journey planning and authorised transport during support.
- Assistance with organisation, planning, time management, shopping, errands and everyday routines.
- Building confidence, independence and social connection while respecting the participant’s choices; supporting rather than taking over tasks.
- Clear case notes, appropriate handovers and prompt reporting of concerns through Relief Wakes’ procedures.

THE SUPPORT APPROACH WE NEED
- Autism-informed practice, including understanding sensory needs and allowing processing time.
- Calm, clear communication; breaking information into manageable steps and avoiding unnecessary noise or overstimulation.
- Respect for personal space, established routines, professional boundaries and confidentiality.




- Consulting the participant before changes, explaining plans, offering breaks and following agreed support strategies.
- An LGBTQIA+ inclusive and culturally respectful approach.
- Dependability, advance communication about availability changes and willingness to work within a small, secure team with appropriate backup.

MUSIC AND CREATIVE SKILLS ARE ESPECIALLY WELCOME Tell us about any practical experience in songwriting, music production, composition, singing, piano or other instruments, Logic Pro or other digital audio workstations, recording, arranging, theatre or performing arts. These skills may help support creative participation and goals. Applicants do not need every listed skill. This is a disability support role, not an advertised music-therapy, counselling or clinical position.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

- Legal right to work in Australia.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening clearance before participant-facing work.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Ability to provide respectful individual support and accurate work records.
- A smartphone suitable for secure rostering and work records.
- Current driver licence and access to a registered, appropriately insured vehicle where driving is required.



Any participant transport must be authorised and within the agreed support arrangements.

Certificate III or higher in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services or a related field, and relevant individual-support experience, are desirable.

PAY AND CONDITIONS

Casual employment under the applicable SCHADS Award classification and pay point, based on duties, qualifications and experience. Applicable casual loading, penalty rates, allowances and superannuation will be provided. The advertised range does not replace applicable award entitlements.
